Starbucks raises prices

http://www.reuters.com/article/domes...true?ic&rpc=92

the article is from 6/23 and says it will happen "next week", well it just happened today. How come the price hike is to cover soaring costs of milk yet all purchases at Starbucks are up in price? I say make the people that order milk drinks pay the hike. My grande americano is up 11 cents!

Milk is just the 'excuse' so they can boost their profits.

That's the rub of our current bastardized economy.. everyone has to GROW GROW GROW or they are SHIT SHIT SHIT.

Companies will lie cheat and steal to maximize that profit... the consumer always gets it in the end.

That back on topic better? My first reply was 5 steps down the line... Don't like what a company does then exercise your rights as a consumer and no longer buy from them. There has to be a threshold where you say to yourself that it's no longer worth it to be their customer.

You're in the service industry, aren't you? You have no idea what its like to take raw goods and make them a finished product, do you?

So if there is a business that buys X product and makes into Y product for a final sale, and X product price hikes, the company shouldn't increase their final sale price on Y product??

yes that is better. Leapfrogging down the line does nothing. that's like someone posting something you don't like and immediately going to, "well I had sex with your wife!!" Seinfeld style. I mean, thats the direction it was headed so I just jumped to the punchline.

I realize the milk costs are mostly just an excuse, I just wish they'd pick an excuse that covered all bases. I'm still going to drink it, I need java in the morning and for me nothing else is as good or worth it at even half the price.

I'm speaking from the consumer side of the equation. There's a difference. A consumer is not OBLIGATED to be a customer at any particular place.

Unless Vcook owns a stake in Starbuck's or something... he's on the consumer side too.. If he's a stock holder, he should be happy w/ the price spike.

I was wondering that, depends on the location and tax area. Previously a Grande drip in the city was $1.89, I'm guessing the price hike makes it real close to 2 bucks.

Oh, you mean 'fourbucks' is now going to be 'fivebucks' ?

Stock prices and pressure to 'exceed goals' are what drives the economy. This is partially why so many companies are going private. Stockholders no longer are willing to take the 'long term' picture in investing.

So, your 11 cent raise is a direct result of ADD shareholders, excessive CEO compensation, lack of retiree benefits, Corporate Accounting Games (ebitda hide and seek anyone?) and ultimately, the lonely little coffee bean picker in Columbia needs to be treated fairly and humanely and now requires 15 minute breaks every hour (instead of every 12 hours).

Enjoy your your coffee

The $11 cent increase just means one thing. Less tip for your barista.

It doesn't affect me though as I haven't touched coffee in many many years. Caffeine makes me ill.

Only drank the stuff a handful of times. But I did see an interview with the owner once. He insist on treating his employees well and offering full health insurance to even part time employees (Think he pays for it all too, or at least most). Something about his dad having some terrible illness when he was a kid and the cost of healthcare put his family in the poorhouse literally. After that he vowed to never let something like this happen to someone else as long as he had the power to prevent it.
So my guess is that he is just passing along the cost of doing business. At least the increase is going toward an honorable thing and not going towards some 2 million dollar party for some CEO's wife (like Tyco).
Still sucks to pay extra for something, but it is a premium item.

Yes, even the part timers get health coverage which is HUGE. My old roommate and an ex girlfriend of mine both worked there at one time. I got retarded amounts of free coffee, we also go free ice for our kegs. hahaha!!

So the buck 94 coffee ends up being ~$2.08 with tax. $1.07 is just about half price and when 11 cents makes an impact than we are looking at some serious savings here.

Venti nonfat sugar-free hazelnut latte and a cinnamon chip scone.

Yesterday, $6.18. Today, $6.29. Yep, it's time to cut back. Didn't really need the scone, anyway.

I like DD coffee, iced with lots and lots of cream - but if you try and make it with skim milk, BLECH. It loses something. Never tried their lattes tho.
