Airport Parking Question

I'm going on vacation next week and I am trying to figure out whether or not I should leave my car parked at O'Hare... I've parked it in the daily parking lot numerous times before, but its only been for business trips that were for a day and those were with my old car I didn't give a shit about... I will be gone for 8 days and I can park in the Economy Lots for $13/ day but I am concerned about something happening to my new car... My dad told me not to leave it there but I looked into taxis and limos and stuff and its a shitload of $$ from Lake in the Hills to O'Hare... I even looked into being picked up at my dads in Palatine and its still $60 each way...

Anyone ever had any problems leaving their car in the economy lots??? Are their other options for parking that I'm not aware of??

You will get killed on fees for 8 days, even in the long term lot.

I used Pride Parking for my last snowboarding trip out west, but that's one of those little remote lots where you leave your keys and they stack the cars in, and bus you to/from the gates. I didn't have any problem with the car, nor my friend's G35 sitting there in the winter, but if you're concerened about the car then get a taxi or a ride.

That said I've left my car in the Lot Term E lot many times for 4-10 days for business travel and never had a problem. Go hunting for a nice remote space against a curb under some lights.

Subtract $117 from the taxi/limo cost and that is the true cost for piece of mind... the 117 is what Ohare will sock you to park it in a place where you will be worrying about it.

I used to leave my Mercedes there for weeks when I was base there. It's a safe(w/cameras) parking lot if you're going to ask me.

Lori, gosh don't you have any family/friends who can just drop ya off and pick ya up

I've never left my car in the economy lot but I can't see how it would differ too much from the more expensive parking.

Honestly I would just recommend you take a cab b/c then you don't have to worry about your car while on vacation, the cab driver will take care of your luggage for you and drop you right off at your terminal, it's worth the extra $$$

Check a few limo services as well. I have had trips Downtown and Oakbrook in stretch limos to/from Ohare for less than $60

I don't really have any family here besides my dad and he is traveling as well, so he can't drive me... Shelly already offered if she's driving by then, but the I take off really early and I arrive in really late and I leave and arrive on weekdays, so I wouldn't ask any friends to have to deal with that...

I will probably just end up leaving it at O'Hare since some of you said you've never had a problem... There is no way I am handing over my keys to someone to park it, so I will just pay the extra for the regular lot...

I used to leave my car (relatively new G35) at the economy parking lot for 5 days. Never had a problem. Don't worry about security and do a simple math - cost of 2 taxi rides vs cost of leaving your car there. That's it.

Where did you find that rate??? I'm guessing you live on the other side of town cause I have never gotten it for that cheap before... My dad travels constantly and he always has to pay about $60 for his ride...

I would just leave my car in the lot if I could not get a ride. Plus, you have insurance so it will be fine. Unless you have an exotic or rare car I see no problem leaving it in the lot.

When I fly personally, I use these guys: http://www.parkrideflyusa.com/ord-oh...rport-parking/

I have never used them at O'Hare, but have a bunch of times at Midway. The lots are very secure, and cameras everywhere. Not to mention the cheaper rates.

I used one of the remote lots that shuttle you to the airport no problems there. Park and fly something like that.

I'm south of Palatine Rd so I guess it is slightly cheaper.

I guess rates have gone up a little for current gas rates since I last took a cab to the airport. Most places say their flat rates to get to O'Hare from my location is $30 now instead of $25

Ask for a "shared ride".....most the times I don 't even have to share...and you get the shared rate. I park all the time in long term parking....nothing has ever happened to my car....crap the city has mounted officers patrolling all the time.

It's more convenient to do what rick said with a shared ride, price wise, nuisance of asking friends, and dealing with the train to the long term lot...

I do it from this area all the time, and if my trip is more than about 5 or 6 days, its not worth it to leave in the lot.

HNM is a good company - 800-428-8547 plenty others out there with comparable prices.

I have used Park N Jet on Mannheim ever since some lowlife tried breaking into my van at long term. I've used them at least 50 times in the past two years and never had a problem. Unless it's full you get to park your own car and keep the keys. There's a coupon on longtermparking.com

Thanks Girlie!! I found a ride to the airport cause it just so happens my dad is leaving for his trip the same day I am so he is just gonna take me and then hang around until his flight takes off!! Phew!! So I will just take a taxi home when I come back... won't be too much $ that way... My flight arrives in at midnight or so, so I don't wanna have someone pick me up that late... thanks though!! I love ya!!

Takes 'em weeks to find bodies in trunks out there. You car will be fine but the daily fee's will kill you. Plus it takes like 30-45 minutes to get there from the terminal.

Call American Taxi (suburban taxi) and negotiate a deal to pick you up and drop you off. Or make a deal with a limo. They usually do flat rates.

or get a ride to one of these metra stations and go straight to ohare. I would do this so you could avoid the cta.

if this if for business, your company should be picking up the tab for your car services to and from the airport. especially since you are gone for 8 days. You can do the shared ride thing or just a cab VS. a full blown limo. Just expense it.
