Got my Official Job Offer!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't begin to explain how excited I am, I got an official offer from my company this Morning for a Job in their San Diego Branch. I signed on the dotted line, and they give me $5000 just for signing. (I have to work for them for at least a year though or they make you pay it back.) Wow, I can't even think right now. Anyway, thought I'd let everyone know the good news.

Yes, I am reimbursed for Truck rental, moving supplies, gas, lodging, and food for relocation. They also cover my family's cars for gas if they want to help me move, (up to two additional cars.) In addition, they will pay for me and my fiance to go out for five days in march to find a house. They cover flight/lodging/rental/food for that as well. Not bad if you ask me.

It should be, my brother and girlfirend live quite nicely on 60k, and that's what I'll be making myself + whatever my fiance makes.

I just went to Cali's dmv, the fees to register my car and all other associated fees come to a total of $97. That's not too horrible.

Shit affording a normal house around here is tough on 60K, how the heck are you gonna do it out there in one of the highest priced and taxed regions in the country.

But for the record I am jealous, I would love to move there.

When I moved out from MI to CA I got a 16K bump in pay. Sounded great until I realized this:

Housing cost went from being 1/4 of my paycheck to being 3/4 of my paycheck.
Everything else rose accordingly too...

Over time that takes its toll.. It's still an awesome place to live and still glad I made the move back yonder.. Coming from the Chi region, I doubt you'll (Pinto) have that much sticker shock, but it's something to keep in mind...

San Diego is seriously nice! And the beach close: La Jolla is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Wait until you ride through the moutains over to Temecula/ Lake Elsinore.
Good luck finding a house! We lived in Ladera Ranch, CA (about 1 hour north) and we couldn't afford a nice condo. So we lived in a $1355/ month (one bedroom apartment). It's rough, but if you go inland...you may find something.

Good luck and congrats! Enjoy it! It's awesome there!!!

Thanks, I've driven the Ortega Hwy about five or six times when I've been out there. It's all tore up right now for repaving, which will be awesome since it's one hell of a curvy road. I've been to La Jolla and gone to the cove there several times. Very Cool.

I don't plan on staying forever, plus, I'll be getting my law degree out there, so money shouldn't really be an issue after completion of that. And you're right, I have looked at apartments in the Downers Grove Area (Near My office Here) and apartments Near the San Diego office. No price difference whatsoever.

Well, I'm not going to be paying property taxes since I'm renting. Plus, in california, Property taxes are 1% of the purchase price of the home as long as you own it. Prices on apartments are identical to the chicago land area, and groceries are no more expensive. And, as of now, their gas is cheaper. Everyone claims it's ridiculous to live out there, but 21 million people do and survive. You're paying for a lifestyle, one that Is pretty damn awesome.

I didn't see any difference in price of food, gas, and stuff like that. Plus you are saving money, because your weekends are spent at the beach (which is free). Oh...and you have Arnold keeping the taxes down. We bought a car in Cali and after Arnold was voted in Governor, we got a check for $700 back like 3 weeks later!
