suggestions for honeymoon destination?

I'm moving back to the east coast next week, and then getting married the week after. The original plan was to postpone the honeymoon till december b/c of her work schedule. But she just decided to quit her job last week and gave her two week notice. Now she wants to go on the honeymoon right after the wedding. I've been on the internet all weekend looking for places to go and I can't really find anything.

requirements
1) budget is <$3k
2) no cruises, or carribean destinations
3) some place where there are hotels, shopping, civilization. No deserted islands
4) some place international

right now it's looking like rome, or london/paris combo, or hawaii .. I dunno seemed a bit generic to me, so I was just looking for other suggestions

thanks

I loved London. There is a lot of history/cool sites right inside the city, plenty of shopping, and hotels. fits the bill perfectly. and if you have some extra $$$ you can always go another city. a good thing about London, they speak english... kind of.

What about Frankfurt?? Airfare is pretty reasonable, hotels are affordable and there is plenty to do... You can take a day trip to Nuremberg to see the real Cinderella Castle... There is plenty of shopping, plenty of entertainment and almost everyone speaks English...

Most of your money will get blown on airfare but once you are there it's cheaper than dirt, actually dirt is probably more expensive. Don't make plans just buy air tickets and make your way around. I suggest the Lonely Planet travel book on it.

San Francisco is cool, take day trips into Napa Valley, drink wine, get naked, good times.

My vote is Kauai- rent a timeshare (cheaper than hotels or resorts) use your mileage points to buy the airfare - enjoy the scenery

Playa del Carmen = cozumel = blech

That whole side of mexico is blech.

I wouldn't rule out caribbean-- US VI and Turks & Caicos are nice-- unless you are avoiding due to hurricane season. In which case, you'd avoid E. Mexico, too.

I vote Wisconsin Dells....or perhaps the Poconos???

You do not have the budget for London and it is rainy season in Mexico. Here are a couple helpful web-sites to help you.

www.luxurylink.com
www.quikbook.com

Maybe you should consider San Diego and then go to the wine country.

europe for under 3k? not...

aside from the obvious, what do the 2 of you like to do?

Costa Rica, we went in early September which is just between the rainy and tourist seasons so we had a lot of hotels to ourselves and a lot of stuff was half price. People are super friendly, and it's beautiful... if you don't want Carribean, just hang out on the Pacific side. We rented a truck and drove around the whole country for two weeks and had a frigging blast. Best trip ever. Lots of nice resorts if you're not up for that, and most places are safe enough that you can wander outside the "compound".

Hey man, In the July issue of playboy they recommend going to Iceland this time of year. Insane night life, awesome hot springs, tons of shopping, golf, sightseeing, etc. I can give you more details about where they recommended to stay and stuff if you're interested at all. BTW, Iceland was named that to deter others from coming to the island, it's not really cold at all. The weather is actually quite nice they say.

Oh, and I know it's your honeymoon, but they also said the women are INCREDIBLE.

thank you guys for the suggestions. I was talking to her last night and she wants the London/Paris thing. Someone at work suggested going to Greece, since it's a bit cheaper.

as far as what we like to do .. were two completely different people. She likes to go shopping at boutiques, go to a small coffee shops and read, shop some more, go out to fancy rest. in NY (she's from there). And I'm more of a get on the bike and ride around and look for stuff to do type of person. So finding activities based on what we "both" like to do isn't going to work. I figure we would just do the things she likes on this trip. And then on the next one we'll do some more of the adventure stuff.

ok the $3k needs to cover hotel, flights, most of the food. The shopping is separate from that. I checked travelocity and it's $2k-2.2k for a decent hotel for 6 nights and the flight

In Paris, stay at the Hotel California

and eat at Le Souffle. The chef there trained the chef that operates the Barrington Bistro-- the food is awesome and the service the same.

My family is from NY too and I know what you're looking for so it seems both restaurants sound like they will make your fiancee very happy.
Also there is a great American-style bar around the back of the Hotel California and I've been there many times and seen Widespread Panic and other american bands. Sounds cheesy but it's actually a great time and a cool bar.
