Man vs Wild... is it fake???

http://www.filecabi.net/video/file-749939847.html

Just have to watch it more carefully now... its kind of like WWF at this point.
I heard other stories too, where he actually sleeps in hotels and crap like that.
I dont doubt his skills.. just the editing, makes for good tv I guess.

Not a repost. The guy is legit. He just adds some Hollywood to his show.

Blasphemer! Bear is almighty He's not supposed to be "survivor man." The point of his show is to give advice and show people what they can do in a situation...hence how he always starts, example "right, today I'll portray a lost skier here in the mountains..." I'm sure he can do the same thing as Les of Survivor-Man but the simple fact is that he is demonstrating things to do in extreme danger.

Code:
Use of crew and simulations of danger

Grylls has stated numerous times on camera that he is not to receive any assistance unless his life is in danger. However, in July 2007 it was reported in the mainstream media that at least portions of some episodes were staged and that Bear did not always survive without help. One of the more serious allegations is that while Grylls claimed to be sleeping outdoors, he was allegedly sleeping in hotels (on Jimmy Kimmel Live, before the accusations came out, Bear stating that only the cameramen were flown out at night). The Discovery Channel said that future airings would be edited to reflect such things.
  • Other reported instances of outside influence or staged situations include the following: * Grylls admitted wearing a flotation device in the pilot episode to ride down a river, specifically for a staged shot. He claimed that he was displeased with the decision, which came from Discovery producers, and has since been able to avoid the use of such devices. * The director of the Desert Island episode, Graham Strong, noted that a diver was at hand to check for sharks while Bear was adrift, and that "we" beat on the raft to scare the sharks away. Also in the Copper Canyon, Mexico episode, director Scott Tankard says that the local indian tribe, the Rarámuri indians, acted as their guides.[7]. * According to the survival consultant for the show's Sierra Nevada and Desert Island episodes, Mark Wienart of Lifesong Adventures, the "wild" horses in the Sierra Nevada episode were shipped in. * The Desert Island raft wasn't made by Bear; it was made by a team of people over a week and a half, using rope, and was dissembled for Bear to put together on camera. * Crew members simulated molten lava by using smoke machines and hot coals. The smoke machines were used to simulate poisonous sulphur dioxide, though Grylls was not in fact facing real danger. * Grylls gives the impression of being lost when he is only a few yards from tourist locations and areas of relatively heavy traffic. * Hiring a man in a bear suit because they couldn't get a tame bear, running the show with a "script" (with scheduled scenes such as "Scene 10 - Grizzly Attacks Camp"), pretending that a snake found dead on the side of a road was alive, eating steak inside a badger skin, and hoisting Bear into a tree to make it look like his parachute "snagged"
According to a C4 executive, "“If what has been alleged is proven to be true, I think the channel would have to think very seriously about its future relationship with him.”

are you guys questioning his methods or just how true he stays to dealing with the elements till he gets out.

my view is his knowledge is dead on with most all he says. he also proves it.

do i bash the guy if he is sleeping in a hotel room versus in the woods or what not to continue to finish the episodes? hell no.

i could last a LONG time out in the middle of no where. but if i had a choice to go out in the middle of no where and hike or hunt and what not. sure ill take a shit behind a bush and wipe my ass foliage, sure ill snare an animal for food, etc, etc, etc.

but if i had a choice of sleeping in a nice bed or some brush camp, ill take the bed

i think you guys are missing the point of the show.

i'll check my tivo, I forget. same concept, only the guy lugs all his cameras and films it himself. he's all alone and nothing is prepped in advance for him. He does 5-7 days wherever they dump him.

If you guys go back to the very first show, which I watched and viewed the online chat w/ Bear right afterwards, you'd see that he specifically says his show is different than Les Stroud's Surviorman.

Les doesn't do any of the exciting, dangerous stunts as he truly is alone for X days, while Bear has a few-person camera crew.

Bear's show is clearly more entertaining and educational across a range of topics, as 'potential' opportunities are scripted in. Surviorman doens't always go as planned, but is more realistic.
