Does anyone use LinkedIn?

It is a nice networking site for business contacts and helping keep track of where folks that you work with or have worked with are. Since I noticed that we have a high concentration of technical folks on the board, I was just curious if any of you were using LinkedIn.

http://www.linkedin.com

If you are, post up your name that you are listed on LinkedIn so that others here might add you. Of course, for affiliation, select Groups, then Other... and add NESBA or CLSB for how you are connected.

if anyone knows. is this a private net work, or when you add your personal info, your contact info and someone looks and finds you, they can view all your information of source contacts, private or public simply by clicking on you?

You can determine how much or how little of yourself to reveal to those 'outside your network.'

However, once you've 'added' people to your network, they'll be able to view all that you've put into your profile.
---amended: you CAN restrict viewing of profile details to ANYONE, even those in your network. source: wink.

anyone can 'request' to be added to your network, but until you authorize it, they cant' view anything more than the 'publicly available' information.

Actually Ken, you can restrict all of your connections info to ANYONE, including your network. I have friends on there that I can only see how I can contact them. It is a GREAT way for keeping in touch.

In a perfect world, EVERYONE on CLSB would be on there, and connected. If we were, we could leverage the people in our very own community and make sure that as much business we could share and send to each other was kept within our community. Imagine if you needed a network installed.... go to your Linked In group, look for network engineers, and you are set. Same for painters, plumbers, lawyers... etc...

guess the gconsier part was obvious eh?

Feel free to add me.. I can imagine I may get some interesting testimonials now "I dont know if he knows anything about computers, but I have seen him both get his knee down, and highside his motorcycle... Once at the same time!"

I guess the person who saw that wouldnt see this though.. As he has been banned I guess...
