Its a federal highway. I don't think they can put in anything that makes it dangerous to ride a motorcycle over. That would be discrimination.

Same reason they can't ban big rigs.

Sounds like one of the better ideas yet. The gap is overrated, and too popular.

I agree with this guy:

Quote:
This has been mentioned before in the past and is nothing more than a rumor. As mentioned above, this is a federal highway, with curves and elevation changes on average every 80something feet. Speed bumps would be more of a hazard to all traffic than it would be worth. Imagine one of the Semi-trucks comeing through and having a load shift while going over a speed bump. Then we'll have a repeat of last week when the trailer turned over shutting the road down and causing massive damage to a section costing around 100grand to repair. Speed bumps are not a likely thing in the future of Deals Gap.

If you ain't with us, then it's just bad news.

I don't even think Motard riders will be enjoying the gap. I was just reading about the gap in another post recently. It seems TN is pretty much trying to get everybody, including sportscars, off the gap. They are doing HEAVY enforcement, to the point of in excess of 10 troopers on the 11 miles of the gap. You can check out the full story here:

Time for the tourist $$ to go someplace else.

That's sad if it comes true... but hey, more reason to explore the other awesome roads in southern KY, WV and of course NC. I hope they don't anything stupid like this to the Blue Ridge Parkway...

Plenty of other roads to ride around those parts. I imagine once people spread out the love to other roads the cops will lower the amount of enforcement and it will go back to some sence of normalcy.
