Man I am on a lucky streak lately...

So I get a call from SIU toady about an undergrad assistantship where I'll be monitoring the performance and efficiency in the on campus coal power plant and they tell me I got the job. $600 a month for 15 hours a week. I need to find some wood to knock on.

And yesterday, I get a call from Geico that they're sending me $750 for "pain and suffereing" from that car accident I was in earlier this summer. My back pain went away after about a month after that accident and my doctor checked me out at a recent followup and said my injury was just some soft muscle bruising, so I wasn't even going to pursue a lawsuit or anything because frankly, it wasn't worth my time. So it was a suprise when they called out of the blue after 2 months and offered me $750. Woot!

only problem with taking that $750 in the future if anything is found that can be traced back to this accident you can't go after them, insurance compaines do it all the time to get off the hook

Yeah, I know. But in all honesty, my back is back to normal and Doc says it's fine. I trust my doc, so I'm going to take the money and sign the waiver. I'm not going to be like those people that fake their injuries to make money like the people that tried to sue me (when I was 17). Come on, who sues a 17 y/o kid, you jst have to know you're not getting jack even if you win.

Was the "Toot your horn" emoticon ever made that was requested in that other thread?

Just kidding man. That's awesome. Are they planning on moving that power plant?

I think that they scrapped any plans on the plant because so many people are opposed to funding anything as long as it stays a coal plant.

OMG, you had that happen too? Shit, when I was 17 some guy hit me and tried to sue me for his problems that dated back to before I was born.

Unable to have sex w/ wife since 1967, neck injuries from 1965, and pay for all his out of pocket expenses for his morphine pump that he was wearing at the time at a dosage such that he should not have been operating a vehicle in the first place. Sheesh

If you're fine, enjoy the money

yeah, seriously, I didn't even think they could name a minor in a lawsuit. We'll I guess 17 is an adult in illinois, but c'mon. Go ahead, sue me for my $20 and schwinn bicycle.

Me too, I haul ass out through that stretch of road. Did you hear there's no more beer/liquor allowed at the spillway?? BS to the max!

Yeah, the amount of money needed to get that plant up to date would be ridiculous. Oh well, it's a good paying campus job and actually related to the kind of engineering I'm in.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!

Did someone die or something? I remember a lot of people falling down the spillway, but not anyone getting seriously hurt. They were making bank of the underage drinking tickets out there.

+1 - back then (early 90's) I had my Interceptor 500 down there. Up n down rt.57 with a duffel bag. Man it sucks. Once you're down there though, that's another story. Food network named the #1 BBQ restaurant in the U.S. some place in Murphysboro - "17th Street Bar & Grill". Might have to head back down there. No booze at the spillway? Big sports-bottle of Capt'n n Coke I guess will have to do.

I had no idea that they name 17th Street the #1 bbq place in the nation. When was this?

Was watching a show on Food Network last night. It was "Bon Appetit Magazines Top American Restaurants" or something like that. They did the top three for Ribs (Pork), Fried Chicken, Pizza, Tacos, Steak, and Burgers. 17th Street was #1 for ribs.
