Um...it's a blue collar town, not too much to do, and for some reason the teenage pregnancy is higher than what I would consider normal. Also, a lot of Harley's and a lot of squids.

Hey, I'm just keeping it real

Now there are a lot of bars for this booming metropolis. And at a lot of these bars, the beer flows cheap. There's not too much in the way of dancing/nightlife, but on Thurs., Papa's in Manteno is the hang out. I've never been there on a Thurs. just because big crowds aren't my thing.

Another thing is the entire town is fanatical about the Bears holding their training camp there. It's cool, but it can also be a headache. Traffic gets crazy, but you can go to TJ's and have a brew w/ a couple of the lineman.

I'd say the best thing about this place is it's location. You're not too far from anything...the southeast or southwest Chicago, you can pick up I-55 in 30 min., it's an hour downtown by bike, 45min. to gas city (Weber Rd), etc. The only thing is...for some reason no one will ride down here...it's too far.

You're thinking of Peoria. Kankakee has some gorgeous housing stock in the historical district (I've got a good friend who lives down that way). Houses are dirt cheap compared to Chicago and the 'burbs.

I think it got cleaned up, or the gangs all killed each other....mutual attrition.

Anyway, he could also live in Bradley or Bourbonnais (adjoined cities) They are much nicer neighboorhoods. Or move in down the street from Doc in Manteno.... they have very nice, reasonably priced duplexes over there.

I have my aiplane based at the airport in Kankakee. I've had it there for about 6 years now. There are some extremely nice subdivisions just outside the city limits. Most people from our area that visit Kankakee just get to see the downtown area. This is not a good representation of the area as a whole.

I'm down in that area every Friday. I avoid the east side at all costs. I would suggest the Bradley-Bourbonnais area. The only excitement down there is the Bears training camp.

Life is too short to ride anything but an R1

Good deal!!!

Well, moving from Wichita, KS (isn't that where you're at?) to Kankakee I don't think you will tell the difference, except Illinois has more twistys (is that even possible? )

If you want to ride with others and hang out where we hang out, you will put on many miles riding up north to hang out with the majority of the people who live west or north of the city. Just look at cherrypicker, he's got over 30K on his 2001 F4i

Good luck and see you soon!
