My Water Softener is possessed

Hmmm, so I get home after being gone for nearly 2 weeks and the 160# of salt I dumped in it is completely gone. And no water was run, so I don't think my 'intelligent meter' is all that bright.

Damn, I hope the installer offers to reimburse the cost of that salt, as the softener was only in 1 week before I left.

Hell yeah, get that installer to do his shit right!
FYI, move closer to Chicago and get rid of the softener. Chicago water rocks.

Wow 160# of salt in three weeks thats crazy .........everytime i talk to people about softners they say they use alot of salt i dont get it i have a softner and i go thru about a bag every month and a half.
there is 2 adults and a 18year old in my house......you have to set your re-genaration cycle to the right setting.... it may be re-generating more then it should

My water sucks, I admit it. My family goes through 80# of salt a week.
2 adults, and 2 kids under 10.

The softener doesn't care how much water is used during the day. The salt is used during the regeneration cycle. I'd say contact the installer, and double check the softener setting. There is a numbered dial to set how much salt is used during regen.

Also ours runs every other day.

Ya think?

The installer just stopped by and replaced the digital meter for me. It is supposed to measure water usage and regenerate only when needed, and considering no water has been run in the two weeks I was out of town but it used up all the salt, it was obviously malfunctioning. It's not the cheaper analog type that you program to run every certain number of days/weeks/etc. It's the 'smarter' one...lol

Still, I'm only dumping in one 40# bag this time to make sure the new meter works.
