update on BP clsoing doors

Quote:
BP America said Thursday it will sell all of its more than 700 company-owned and -operated U.S. convenience stores over the next two years, eliminating nearly 10,000 jobs.
The company said most of the sites will be sold to franchise owners, while some will be sold to dealers and large distributors. The sites will continue to sell BP fuels in the eastern United States and Arco fuels in the western U.S., with the store brand now to be known as "ampm" nationwide.

ampms were all over california.

My opinion:

They can make more money leasing the space to someone else operating it and have consistent profit (since it doesn't matter what the ampm entity makes or not...they still get their lease money)...and don't have the employee expenses on the books either.

It's all about the dollar, and damned those human beings for getting in the way of a good balance sheet numeric.

OR, they'll just profit from the fuel and the new 'owners' will have to deal w/ the EPA mess that might be under some of those locations.

Everyone Exaggerates

We're being taken for a ride... agaaaaaaain.....

And while BP is eliminting jobs, the local employees will be picked up by local vendors. The guy behind the counter will get a check, maybe less, from someone else. Gas stations are not going away.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

They'll just be an 'expense' on someone else's books.

All of the BPs in the area have already switched to AM/PM. There was little or no change in services/products/pricing

If I recall correctly we used to have AM/PM's here in the early 80's? Or was that a different chain?

People take these things too seriously!
