I don't believe so, but I know DVD's do for sure after buying the first 3 season of Scrubs from Australia! The only way I can watch them is on my computer.

The reason that DVDs have region codes is that different places around the world use different color formats for thier TVs. In North America we use NTSC. A good portion of the rest of the world uses PAL or SECAM.

That may be part of the reason, but not the whole reason. If it were, for example, Japan would be in the same region as the US and Canada, and there wouldn't be one region code for the EU.

nope, they are NOT region free. HD-DVD however IS region free. Just another reason I think HD-DVD will win in the end. Region coding is stupid.

You can get almost any philips DVD and do remote control hack
to make it region 0 - this one will work with all DVD's around the world.
There is 6 dvd regions

region 1 - USA and Canda

region 2 - Europe, including France, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Arabia, Japan and South Africa

region 3 - Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo and Indonesia

region 4 - Australia and New Zealand, Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America

region 5 - India, Africa, Russia and former USSR countries

region 6 - Peoples Republic of China
