Speeding in a school zone?

Hypothetically speaking of course….can anyone tell me what the potential damage is from a speeding ticket of lets say 27 over in a school zone in Joliet?

I will be taking all constructive criticism and passing it along to my wife, in addition to the earful she has already gotten from me.

This has got me boiling. Without being a hypocrite, I am more pissed off about her lack of situational awareness than her speeding. Speeding can be fixed, her not paying attention will require more than the hefty fine and whatever else this indiscretion will cost.

I’ll be looking through the lawyer thread and making some phone calls later.

Cheers! I hope everyone had a great holiday. (I found this out at about 10 this morning.)

Well, it's a normal speeding ticket unless there were children present.

Be happy she did not pass a school bus. I believe that's an automatic 6 month suspension now.

Everyone Exaggerates

I think it's much more severe if "children are present"

If it was during school hours it serious, go with a lawyer. Otherwise normal ticket.

You know the Germans, if you don´t join the party they come and get you.

I don't know the specific fines for Will County, however, the ticket technically can only be written if it's between the hours of 7am and 3pm on a school day when school is in session AND there are children present.

***If the only children present are behind a fence, like surrounds some schools, then it is not considered "children present"***

It is a mandatory court appearance and the minimum fee in DuPage County is $322 for the 1st offense and $522 for the second offense.

If there are any other particulars or questions, just let me know!

sounds like you wrote that ticket

Curious though, is it on the ticket that a child is present? If so how would that be proven

I actually have never written the ticket and I just received a copy of the new inflated DuPage County court costs so I looked at that to see what the fine is for DuPage.

If I wrote the ticket, I would note how many and where the children were present but that's just me, another officer may not. As far as proving it in court, that's where it is the word of the officer versus the defendant. If it does go to trial though, the defendant, or laywer, has the right to question the officer about the presence of children and their locations to determine if the citation was issued appropriately or not.

Or if need be, get a copy of the patrol cars camera to view if children were present.

I can pm you a good lawyer, he just got my DUI case dropped to a speeding + 1 year supervision.

Damn, that's amazing. Much better than you'd hoped. I guess your GF won't be seeing much of me anymore.
