Basically I want to know if there is a way to find someones email address? I don't know why but recently I've been thinking a lot about contacting my dad (the holidays usually do this), who I do not know and have only spoken to once 10 yrs ago. I know his address, ph, pretty much everything BUT his damn email addy!! Yeah, I could just call him, but I am actually nervous. I want to take the sissy way out and email him. I know him wife's email address (found her company website), but I am pretty sure his wife doesn't even know I exist, and I'm not looking to start drama.

So, suggestions on locating an email address? I mean everyone has an email address. I know he did when we talked 10 yrs ago, but I lost it, or didn't care enough back then to keep it.

Maybe you could try something like first letter of his first name and last name at some more common email servers? I don't really know of any services but that might be of some help.

Did you try googling his name. It could be linked to a Monster resume or something online that would give you his email. Thanks to UIUC, it seems my info will be on the net for life .

name search, myspace. you'd be surprised. just read an article on this the other day with adopted children and biological parents tracking each other down.

Social Engineering is your best bet. Call as his daughter to update a customer record at some business.. you could easily get someone to give it out to you.. you just have to think of the likely places he'd have it on file

That is the round about way.. but just calling the house as a sales call until you get him is another way to talk to him It gives you an 'out' if 'she' answers to ask her if she's interested in a time share in florida

Also, what if his wife checks his email, or they share an email account. My sister and brother and law do that, so the drama can start that way as well. At least if you call his house and a woman answers the phone, you could pretend to be a motorcycle parts telemarketer and just tell her to have a nice day and end the call when she shows no interest in moto products .

I googled his name, and surprisingly there isn't much. I googled his wifes name, and I found more stuff there...I think his father passed away a couple of weeks ago, and that made me a little sad, because I never got a chance to meet them.

Arch, what do you mean call to update a customer record? How would that get me his email addy? I know the companies I could call, but I doubt they would give me anything. The sales call is a good idea, I know he works construction as a roofer and his wife has a cleaning business, and they have a daughter who is around my age. I have been trying to find her name, because she may have a myspace because he doesn't.

Simular to what arch said, do you know where he works? Call as a trade magazine representative and ask for his email address from the receptionist.

Bingo.. Say you are his daughter, and you want to update your customer records. Give them the name, address and phone number and say and my email is.. oh wait.. drat.. which one do you have on file because I sometimes give out my citigroup one.. . and usually at this point the rep will tell you what is in their system... .then say.. Um.. hmm.. well.. ya, that one's still good. Thanks.. can you make sure I'm still on whatever emails you send out and stuff?

Rather then trying to "trick" him into giving you his e-mail address, just call him. He should have told her about you already. If my wife never told me about a child she had before she met me I would seriously wonder what else she was hiding. I would rather know about those types of things. That seems pretty important to me.

It's hard when you know that your actual father never cared enough to keep in touch or even try and find you...It sucks! What if he wants nothing to do with me? I guess I would just rather know via email, I dunno, I suppose I am just expecting the worse. It's hard to explain why I would rather intiate the contact via email.

No, I didn't say anything about being his daughter, just said I was looking for a particular person, and if it is him he'll know me. He knows my name, he called my mom after I was born to figure that out, but never came around.

Yeah, it is hard to explain why email rather then phone. If he wants nothing to do with me, that is fine, at the least I just want to know what he looks like, and at least know that I tried.

Do you know what university he attended? You can use the finger utility and find email addresses of students easily that way. I used it to stalk coeds all the time.

I am pretty sure that he didn't go to college.

as a side note.. Most places have closed fingerd due to security holes with it.. and the "what's the point" factor of it... Most of that has moved to web based directories anyway...

Gixx... Do your thing.. See what you can find.. It's your life and while everyone probably has an opinion on how you should run it.. This is a very personal thing that I am sure very few on here have ever had to deal with.. None of us know the particulars or why things went the way they did.. and I would say it's to important of a thing for anyone just to assume anything...

Also.. It's probably not 100% kosher (ok.. i know it's not at all kosher) but there are some police officers on the board.. They sometimes have some decent ways of looking things up that the public (shouldn't) doesn't have access to... If you are friends with anyone you might want to ask them to take a peek.. While I doubt it will have their email address in their system, it will probably have most other info making a search for the email on the internet that much easier....
