I need help w/ a phone

I need a new cell phone. I just put internet on my AT & T razor and it sucks. Slow as dial up. Help me with a good phone choice for my service (AT & T). I thought I phone but then got pushed towards Blackjack 2. I ONLY need it for calls and surfing!

The AT&T internet network (EDGE) is garbage. It is dial up slow. My buddy has an iPhone using AT&T and his internet is dial up slow so I think it is problem with the network. If you want a network with fast internet, go with Sprint.

Ya, your phone isn't limiting the speed. The ATT network is horribly slow. You will need to go with a 3G network if you expect anything close to broadband speed.

Sprint and Verizon's EVDO network is outstanding for surfing. EDGE is crap just like iPhone. Nextel is also crap. The new Sprint/Nextel hybrid phones though rock. Best of both worlds.

I have a contract with AT&T. So switching is not an option. I need to find a faster phone.

ATT offers a number of 3G capable phones. I had a V3xx (3G RAZR) and it was pretty fast, faster than my friend's Sprint broadband Samsung. If calls and surfing is all you need, the Blackjack 2 is a good call. 3G capable if I'm not mistaken. If you're looking for something more compact, the new generaion of 3G Motorolas would work as would the LG cu500, which got rave reviews for call quality, IIRC.

I'd look at a refurbished AT&T 8525 for $150, or Palm 750 for $100 from AT&T here http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-pho...martphones.jsp

blackjack or the treo 750 is your only viable option with att for 3g. I have the treo 750 aqnd love it, Kruz uses a blackjack and likes his. you'd probably be better off with the blackjack, it's cheaper. especially just for surfing and calls.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Cheap is good. More $ for important stuff like bike acc. Honestly ill spend the $ for the best of what i need. But the best on the market might be overkill for my needs. Does that make sense?

IF you want/need a QWERTY keyboard, Tony's right. The TREO and Blackjack are about it.
If not, there a number of 3G phones for less than $100.

Just go with the original Blackjack then. I had it and loved it. I also hacked the hell out of the interfaces a little to make WM5 run how I wanted. You'll also want to get Opera Mini.
