Ok... How did they not see this coming? This tiger attacked someone last year?

I'm all for animal rights but this a wild animal that had proven it's ability to exercise it's killer instinct! My prayers go out to the zoo keeper that lost their life and the other 3 that were mauled (2 this time, 1 last year).

This year they have yet to determine how it escaped but have already stated it was not through a door. Somehow jumped the water and wall

True. I still wonder why we even have zoos today. We have excellent camera and satellite technology. We could capture these animals better in the wild without capturing them or harming them. Can't we just leave them where they are in the wild and film them?

Sucks but I hope the Tiger does not get a raw deal here. Zoo's suck for these animals in the first place. Large outdoor refuge parks would be better. I know that's not good for people to view them as such..

Obviously the caging of the animal was inadequate or someone left a door open.

Yes.. I didn't read the entire story. Wasn't a Tiger beheaded this week also at another Zoo? WTF?!?!?

Agree with CHI1000RR, nurse the animals back to health to release them in the wild, or put them in a wildlife sanctuary, but no need for a zoo, where they are extremely confined and unhappy. Hell, if I was that tiger I would want out too.

Not trying to start an animal rights debate... But would YOU continue to go around a 350 lb. wild animal that has already attacked another human being? It was a matter of time.... And like has been stated caging them for survial of that species is one thing. To put them on display is another. It was going to happen "again" being that the tiger has already done this before...

Obvioulsy the tiger was underestimated... Being that they have no idea (at this moment anyways) as to how it got out. I agree with more so with the satelite comment made... Why not get footage of these animals in their natural habitat where killing is their means of survival and not considered some great public threat.

I don't think it is an animals rights debate. I just think that it is sad that they had to kill a beautiful animal because somehow it was able to get out of it's enclosure.

It is a wild animal an there is no way that you would get me near one of those things. (We must look like an easy snack to them).

Another big thing about this is that it is a high-profile animal that killed someone. If it was a snake that bit and killed someone, then it is a completely different story.

If you want to view these animals, view them in their natural habitat or large wildlife parks. If someone gets mauled, well, that's nature.

Well that sucks. Can you imagine just sitting in a cafe relaxing over a cup of coffee and getting jumped by a 500 pound tiger? It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.

I guess I can not knock all Zoo's, as long as the animal has enough room to run and is not crowded by other animals. Most Zoo's to the best of my memory are very confined.

Zoo's also protect animals that are heavily hunted by poachers in the wild. Not all zoos are bad, most I've seen are very good to their animals.


No matter how sweet a wild animal may seem to be it is still a wild animal. They should never be underestimaded. It really sucks that someone died and 3 others were mauled. My heart goes out to them.

Tigers are cool. Zoos serve a purpose. In Cambodia wild tigers are pretty much extinct. Too many poachers.

It's unfortunate what happened. I do however believe the zoo should be equipped with non lethal means of subduing a escapee animal.

I think the crux of your argument should be "Zoos are saving animals that are not surviving because we are taking away their wild"

Can't destroy their habitat and then say they aren't surviving in it
