With the exception of the Desmo, Ducatis aren't much more than other bikes. Alex got his for what I paid for my Gixxer. I'm nowhere from being rich or making $500K+ a year but I can afford a Ducati, or two or even 3. I still won't buy one of though. Not unless I want to put it in the crusher.

The difference is, it'll cost the Duc owners 5-10x as much to maintain their bikes, than it will for you to maintain the Gixxer

I'm not even going to arguing that. However it's usually the nut that holds the handle bars and the seat together that ruins the art on wheels image.

I own an '02 truck, an '03 motorcycle and had a '97 dirtbike. I may have embellished my monetary situation a bit...although not all pimps are created equal, so I may have in fact not been out and out lying.

That being said, your idea sounds like it would make a very nice trackbike

That's assuming they ride it. Most just let it sit in the garage, leaking fluids all over the floor. There's only so much espresso a Ducati owner can drink in a year.

Where do you guys come up with this stuff?
I have owned or do own 2 ducati's and 1 aprilia...
Never had any problems with any of them.. and service at MCC has always been on par if not cheaper than at many of the UJM dealers I have dealt with.. and it tended to be fixed right the first time..

What is it you think is so expensive / hard to fix / breaks so often on a duc?

personally in all my bikes (been quite a few over the years) I have only blown one motor... 97 zx9r .. and those are known as bulletproof (still to this day dont know how that happened..<2k on it.. and never beat it..

Duc was making 116hp at the wheel with 18k on it when I was broadsided (see pic to upper left.. that's from that accident)

Japanese : Those are the rules? OK, we will make the best bike according to those rules.

Ducati : Nope! We need special Ducati rules that meets our needs. Give us more CCs then everyone else and a 5 minute head start.

Amerikans trained the Japanese after we nuked them as part of the restoration. I think we should give ourselves a little more credit here.

Oh sure...
There are VERY expensive parts you can buy for a duc...
That said, I recently saw an R1 with 4500$'s (or it may have been 4500 pounds.. which is double for those not up on foreign currencies) in bolts.. every screw and bolt replaced with titanium...
Now does that make Yamaha's a rip off?
No.. It means someone has a lot of truly disposable income.. Because nobody .. NOBODY who would be paying for their own bike mods rides at such a level that replacing all their screws makes an appreciable difference...

(I added the "paying for their own mods" part to exclude the Rossi's etc of the world.. Yes.. It might make a hairs difference to them... But they don't pay a dime for their bikes.. quite the opposite eh?)

Duc's tend to come with nicer base level componentry than the majority of the japanese.. the exception I suppose being the R1 LE.. Which was only available for 1 year... (kinda sadly.. thought about picking one of those up.. maybe used)

and generally the fit and finish is a bit better too...

I am not a bike bigot though.. I love all bikes.. and I own everything from Aprilia, Buell, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, to Suzuki as I type this (not including bikes I have owned and sold)

Shit.. I spend more time on my SV than anything else anymore... Bikes are bikes.. Don't hate on a brand.
