Broken Toe questions

Is there anything you can do with a broken toe? I slipped in the shower this morning and my second to last toe smashed into the thing sticking up out of the tub drain and I think it is broken. It is bleeding, swollen and hurts like hell. I heard that going to the doctor really does nothing because they can't do anything. Help!!!

You got it Marlene!

Dont waste your time or money--
Straighten it out and tape it to the toe next to it for support and live with it for a few weeks........

Broken toes really suck!!!! Almost as bad as a boxers fracture!

The doctor can set it if it's really screwed up, otherwise they can't do much.

Go to the doctor and find out for sure. Don't base your foot's health on opinions from a forum.

Labdog is tougher than Survivorman, he knows his stuff. As he said, not much they can do with a fractured toe. Unless it is a twisted crooked mess, I wouldn't bother going in for it.

Ha! I just saw that wiki!!!

Yeah, it may be time for a bath mat, it is not the first time I fell in that stupid shower. Just the first time I really hurt myself. Luckily it is not twisted or anything, just much more wiggly than the same toe on the other foot.

OUCH... Sorry...

The only reason I would let a doctor look at it is if the break was lenghtwise. This would create a SHEARING action on the bones regardless of how much you tape it. They would have to do something else for it to heal properly

My MIL went around for 6 months with a shear break (lengthwise) and it would not heal until they put her foot into a big ugly boot-cast thing.

If you know it's not that type.. everyone else's suggestions are right on par.

Everyone Exaggerates

We're being taken for a ride... agaaaaaaain.....

I would go to the doctor just to be safe. I've known quite a few people who have ignored broken toes and screwed their toes up even more and required surgery because of it... Better safe than sorry!

you have to install some sticky/abrasive grip mats or strips if you're going to keep doing that kinky stuff in the bathtub with that baby oil...

Tony, you're doomed to performing foot massages and baby duties while she milks this for the next 3 weeks.

Marlene, the Doc ain't going to do much besides tape it up for you after charging you for x-rays. Oh well, he'll give you a set of crutches that you'll need for hobbling around on the next few weeks. Go put your medical benefits to work
