Sparring (giving it another shot)

well thought i will ask this again, since my punching bag is to the point where i might have to get another..YES the new 100pound bag i got is beat to shit!

but anyway.

i was thinking we get ourselfs alittle sparring thing going. maybe we get some head gear and a matt and so forth. to be safe on. its a great way to get a work out, build some muscle and coordination. now this isnt some toughman thing..beat the fuck out of eachother and call the EMS. this is getting a good workout while taking and giving some punchs to GOOD kncok out punchs.

dont know if you guys done this before but i can talk about it and let you know how things work. and again..this isnt some fight to the knock out...if someone thinks they are gonna do this with me or who ever...we will knock you the fuck out...lol

this is for fun and a workout and in a way to work off some anger and feel some good pain!.

so if anyone is intrested please let me know ill see what i can do even to the point of doing it in my basment.

the last time this club that someone was gonna try to get us into didnt work out.

so what ya say?

I have head gear, mouth guard but no gloves. I am defenetly in. I think mouth guard is pretty important and pretty cheap... I can get some more cheap I think, but they need to be molded for them to work right. or just a regular mouth guard from a sports store.

I also have some quotes on mats from two different companies, I am looking into turning my garage into a small gym/sparring ring. The mat is not expensive... let me know if you guys are interested and I will look further into it.

I have a bunch of wrestling head gear, but no head gear like karate. Also, I'd be interested....I have a lot of stress in my life right now.

Ok, one of the quotes I got is a 3 by 3feet mat for $43 bucks. My garage is a 1 1/2 car garage that I really never put cars on, just my and my friend's bikes so cleared is a pretty nice space. Is all cinder(sp?) block and brick in the outside. I was in the thinking stage with one of my buddies about getting a heavy bag and some other stuff(I practice martial arts) that is why I started looking. And I would be more than glad to host the events since I think I live in a pretty central location. So let me know what you guys what to do how soon, and I will get the wheels in motion.

darn 43 bucks for a 3x3.....your gonna need like 9 of those boys..and thats if someone doesnt fall out of the 9foot center.

thats almost 400 bucks. big penny to pintch. is there some other kind we can get for cheaper that will also be ok for a mat?

This is not wimpy mat, this is the heavy mat that they use at martial arts dojos over the concrete... plus I will incurr on most of the cost once everything is set up if we do decide to go ahead and do it at my house. If someone else gets the gloves, and then someone else gets the heavy bag or whatever else we need... then it would be all good. I can also look at other cheaper Mat, but it might hurt if you fall down. That would be ok too, I don't think people are going to be doing more than boxing.

I have a hockey helmet, does that qualify as headgear????

It WOULD be interesting to do this on the ice and DROP the gloves......

Logtar, since you're in Berkely, I might be up to try it out. I'm not all that far from you (Grand/Harlem, near Elmwood Park).

well, I might have a BBQ soon(next couple of weeks weather permitting)... so maybe we can have the guys interested in doing it come in, check out the garage and see if you guys deem the place big enough. I live about 5 mins from Strats so that is pretty central. If everything is a go then I would get the Mat and then we can see what other people want to bring. I know we'll need different size head gear, some gloves, etc... but I do commit to host it and paying for most of the Mat(or all of it, depending how impatient and willing to cooperate $$$ people are). Sparring is great exercise and you don't really learn anything until you get the shit beat out of you a couple of times so it should be fun.

well dont beat the shit outta me...but yeah..you do realize...HUMM i just got punched 15 times in the left side of my face..maybe i should protect that better!

hahahahhaa

also we gotta let people know..if they start getting tempered...hey nothing wrong with saying stop...i need a break..sometimes i get like that too to be honest.
before i or some else takes sparring into a full out boxing match.

which isnt a good thing. its heathly and its good work out.

Here are some simple rules to sparring. If you or anyone else in the room deems the match out of hand or it starts getting personal everyone stops. That way no one gets hurt(seriously hurt ) As long as we are all adults about it is is fun. And anyone can yell stop like Odysseys said. If you feel yourself getting pissed off, just stop. It is a workout and a learning experience we want to make friends not enemies.

exactly....also just about all the time..the FULL power punches arnt even thrown...myself dont like knocking out someone...its about the sparring..not eliminating people.

Also check Play It Again Sports. I've also seen some ads in Trading Times in the past.

And the more I think about it, I definitely will give it a shot (no pun intended!). I do have some gloves 'n stuff and I can try to find my old hockey mouthgard back from the time I had ice time shortly after I had wisdom teeth extracted....
