Listing The M3

Well I'm in the banking industry and thought I should sell a toy...

But seriously. I drove it once in the past two months as it is parked most of the winter. I spend a ton of time on the phone while in the car, the stick shift is a pain in the ass for multi-tasking. I want a used 04/05 645 CI.

What's the best time/place to list it or would you wait to trade it in?

You could always park it in my garage!

How much are you asking?

I'd sell it privately. I always thought dealers were out to screw you on the trade in. I would list it on Craig's List and see what kind of offers you get. Its free so you don't really lose anything.

I have to research retail on it. I was thinking 35k, it has 32,000 miles. Not a scratch or ding on it other then a minor scuff on the right front rim (curb finder). Rim can be fixed for $200. It has warranty to December 2010 or 100k miles. It has never been in snow, only rain when the weather man was off. I blame that on Chills.. It's an 04'.

Just get one of those bluetooth earpieces and keep the M!

Whenever I needed to be on the phone with my 6MT G35, it worked great. And now they've got even better technology in those. The Aliph Jawbone has mil-spec noise cancelation built in.

i have never had any luck with autotrader or any of those other sites. Your listings usually get washed out by dealerships.

I don't know what options you have in your car, but Edmunds lists "Private Party Sale" as just under 30k for your miles. Options add to it, of course. You will probably get very close to 30k with options - maybe 32k.

Cars.com works fine. $35 or $50 'run until it sells, generated some serious private party sales for me (new Suburban with 8k miles and a Corvette C6 with 600 miles). I've always relied on Cars.com and NOW is the time to sell because interest rates are so low. Good luck.

If you don't mind waiting, post it up asap. worst that can happen is you get an offer early :P Just do the free places for now: forums, craigslist, etc. when you get serious, and the weather turns nicer, start going with the pay sites. They usually sell pretty quick on there.

and I wouldn't rule out a trade in. Yeah, they will lowball you, but with a car that valuable you can get a decent tax break out of it.

Can I come over every other weekend and wash it for you? As far as 32k, Levin BMW offered me 34k in trade back in September. Of course, that is what they were showing me with a minor discount on the new purchase. They did not have one on the lot for six months. People were holding on to them. I may try cars.com unless Tony's SUV has spinners. That may close the deal.

Somebody know the IL rules regarding buying a car from a private owner with a loan. How does they buyer register the vehicle before receiving title? I guess the seller could request overnight service from their bank... Is there any temp registration?

you can't register a vehicle w/o the title in hand as far as I know.

You just stick your plates on it and carry the bill of sale and any other paper work with you in case you get puled over.

Oh by the way I have the title in hand for the jeep so you wont have to worry about that

i wouldn't do that. THat is misplating the vehicle. Your almost better off driving with no plates at all.

I have always had the people keep the plates that I had on the vehicle, I have a bill of sale that is dated. and then just mail them the title after that fact. i have done this both ways. I guess it takes a monicrum of trust on behalf of the seller to not screw over the buyer.

you must also consider the depreciation from when the new ones will come out, i would try and get rid of it asap before the new ones arrive
