What pickup truck to get?

I've been thinking that the only time I drive is in winter, when I want to carry large stuff or when it rains too much so an awd pickup is far more suitable to my needs than a sedan. So I'm looking for for a pickup which is big enough to carry at least one bike, but small enough that it doesn't look I'm compensating for something.

What does everyone recommend? I have zero preferences as to make or model.

Toyota Tacoma, hands down awesome little truck. they will probably be at the bike show in a few weeks as they are always the sponsor. I know seeing the trucks there is how I ended up with my tundra.

Tacoma

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

How is the Tacoma with towing? Is it just me or do all of the used ones seem to have extremely high mileage?

Taco or Tundra. The Tundra is a bit on the big side, but its all kinds of awesome. The Taco should be able to haul 1-2 bikes with no problem. If its the V6 it won't have any trouble with a small trailer.

Stay away from Dodge if you want to tow. My step-dad had two separate Rams' transmissions go out from towing. He now has a Tacoma.

Buy the Taco.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Also, next year Chevy/GMC will be introducing a 4.5 TurboDiesel in their 1500 series trucks. It'll have more torque (310 HP/500+ft/lbs tq) than any gasser and get close to 30 MPG on the highway. Once it comes out, my Tundra will probably get traded in.

My 1999 Ford Ranger has 113K miles and is going strong. I have driven down to Daytona Biktoberfest twice hauling my non-Jap sportbike.

Tacoma is fine too for the Communists or Democrats on the board.

At 100K my 2001 Tacoma just goes, period. I haul my bike with it all the time. I've got the 3.4 V6 which is rated to tow over 5,000lbs. IMO they are the best looking midsize truck out there.

What's your price range and are you looking to buy used?

That's pretty good mileage for only one trans job and two engine swaps.

Now that's funny. Untrue but funny.

Funny thing, my 17 year old daughter prefers to drive "her" pickup truck over my S2000.

Even with a 17 year old girl grinding gears and clutches, it still keeps going and going.

Due to being to the very minor possibility of not being in this country in August I'm trying to keep price below $10,000. Used is preferential but I could also go for a lease as long as theres a possibility of canceling it within two years. Resale value and easy of sale is pretty important to me.
