Fight Science

Did anyone see the two new episodes on National Geographic last night with the UFC fighters and the Special Ops dudes?

Amazing stuff. The calculated power of the UFC striking was insane, along with Couture's ability to DROP his lactic acid levels after intense muscle use. And the ability of the special ops fellas to actually improve their performances after stressing their bodies to extreme heat and cold was just nuts!

I saw this last night, the UFC fighters were amazing. Great show. I would not want to be hit be any of those guys.. The UFC fighter was likely to cause a concussion with one punch.

I say the UFC one. Very interesting to see how hard they really hit and what is behind all the positions such as stand up and ground work.......
Tito is still a bitch.

As good as the UFC episode was, I actually thought the Special Ops show was more interesting. Just awesome what training and mental toughness can result in.

They actually thought the first punch by the UFC fighter was wrong for too many pounds per square inch. So, he hit the dummy harder..

Did anyone see the brick breakers later? The guy could not break as many bricks without yelling just before. That was interesting.

that brick breaker was sick... could you imagine him dropping the hammer on your shoulders? I think my arms would rip off.

and I think the left hook (forgot the name) was 1500 psi. ouch.

It shouldn't matter, boxing gloves are designed to distribute the force over the hand so as not to break bones in the fist. While the point force on the surface of the face may be slightly less, the impact to the brain and thus the force of the punch should be the same.

Joe Rogan's constant comments like "these aren't boxing gloves" are just nonsense.

force is the same, but 16 oz gloves are a bit softer. granted from those guys, it still feels like a train running into your face. If I were to punch with a 16oz glove and a UFC glove, the UFC glove would hurt more.

Just put it on the DVR. Maybe in HD it will seem so much more real. I might wear head gear just in case.

Good tv!

LOL at the karate guy doing a bum rush through the blocks of ice... He should have his own show where he just crashes through all kinds of sh!t.

3rd declaration: In such extreme circumstances, the law is by definition inadequate. To shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law, to pursue natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive-it is an emotional response. Vengeance serves no larger purpose. Society does not benefit from vengeance. Violent men are not deterred by acts of vengeance. The only appropriate response to their actions is the one I have chosen to pursue: a course of purposed, intentional violence. Violence intended to instruct, as much as destruct. A course, in a word, of punishment

Dana White has done wonders for UFC and turned it into a gold mine - I still prefer "Pride" as it is more of what UFC once was before the "rules" came into play

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW, what a RIDE !!"
