CLSB Military Veterans?

Alright so I am kind of fed up right now, been trying to search the net and not finding what I am looking for. So who here knows what I am talking about.

Its official, I turned in mine and the wife's ID cards today and picked up my DD 214, 9 years, 1 month and 3 days of service is now over thanks to being diagnosed with diabetes.

Anyway I know I need to register my DD 214 at the courthouse. I live in Cook county is there someplace in the suburbs that I could go to to do this, preferably in the Schaumburg area and not have to go downtown for it.

Also what about Vet Reps, I can't remember who it is or how to get ahold of her (I think from Tap class at Great Lakes) just to touch base with and blah blah blah, you should know the drill.

Hope someone around here might know some of these things, what do you recommend I do now, anything?

For now the 214 is going in the safe.

We're supposed to register those? Man I've been out a few years and haven't. Oops.

Congratulations on getting out. Were you active or part-timer?

As for a Vet Rep I'm not sure. I've never had to deal with one.

It's ideal to register your DD214, but no one is going to twist your arm. As far as a rep or where to go that isn't in the city to register...couldn't help you. I wish I could though. Have you tried calling the VA? I have the number if you want it.

yeah I made 5 copies as soon as it was given to me, I figured that would get me through the week.

Chills, I had no idea you were a vet, all my time was active.

you don't need to register, but one of those things if you ever need it and can't find it you can get it this way alot easier than any other way.

I've got numbers for the VA, just checking to see if some knows before I have to call a million different places to find what I am looking for.

When I got out I registered mine at the Kane County Courthouse (where I lived at the time) They will provide you with 3 notorized copies, I believe (a regular copy isn't good for much). As far as a Vet Rep goes, contact the VA, and they will get you in touch with the right person.

Sice we are sharing pictures......

Thanks. I was in one of 2 units in the 101st that wore red berets. My company was actually a detachment from the 82nd, hence the beret. I was pretty damn pround to wear that thing.

Cool pics, Craig. What did you think of the LAVs?

I wish I could find some of me with my tank. M1A1 FTW.

Even though it wasn't a new concept (the ARMY had them mothballed before the USMC took them) they were a superb light attack vehicle. Many tanks fell to the AT version. Fast and agile for their size, and work in every climate (unlike the Bradley).

I wish I still had the pictures of the high speed water entries, it would shoot a wall of water in the air about 50ft. Going off the back of an LSD (Naval Ship) was scary, the LAV would sink and then pop back up to the surface like a cork.

I could do that in a HMMV. Also got all four tires off the ground, many times. 7 SFG(A) was banned from leasing HMMVs from Ft. Huachuca for a while.

When I was in Afghanistan I drove my HMMV through a river.. no shit, everyone was on the roof and water was over the hood. I had it in Low 4 and the wheel cranked all the way to the left. They tried it in a Tacoma and lost the truck for a while.

They still wear them? 7th group still wore maroon while the rest of the army went to black or tan. I wonder if they finally gave in.

HMMV... Pfft! Don't get me wrong, they are fun to drive, but there are so many other fun toys out there! Getting 4 tires off the ground you say? How about 8? River crossing... Pfft! Check it out:

My friend didn't believe a HMMV would fit in a Chinook!

Not just float, but it is fully amphibious. Mind you, anything with swells over a couple of feet isn't much fun because it is slow in the water.

Hello,

I am not a veteran, but I do know that the Cook County Recorder's office has a web site at http://www.ccrd.info with information on how to get your paper recorded.

i registered at dupage...i cant help u out when it comes to cook...i would try the nearest local courthouse and not in the city...

i dont understand by what u mean by "vet reps"...what exactly are you looking to do or get help with?

oh...and let me tell ya now...make at least 10 more copys of your DD214...u will need it more as time comes further along believe it or not...but for sure go to local courthouse and see if they can do it, like rolling meadows...im pretty sure they can do it...you want that on your record ASAP...and for the rest of you that didnt register yours...i would suggest that you put your on record also...

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

He was a Medical Discharge, if you weren't then you you wouldn't know.

If you have any questions, let me know I had to go through the process when I was sent home. Be sure to get to the VA Hospital ASAP and have one of their Docs at least get you in the system. This is important for you to do, so that it won't affect your disability. I unfortunately know about this all too well.

PS - Sorry about jacking your thread, but it kinda took a different direction all by itself.

ah...got ya....yea, contact the va hospital HINES over by maywood..they are the only ones in the area that can be delt with for chicago people...i would suggest calling them and getting as much info as to phone #'s and room #'s to go to when you arrive...instead of trying to just go there...any given day there, they can be bumrushed with shitloads of people and u can be waiting in a line for an hour just to get info...so try calling them 1st...good luck...
