Guess I'm looking for a new job

Don't know if you guys saw the announcement, but Motorola is selling off their cell phone division. Motorola is my only customer. This means that my job could go away in a year or year and a half. Even if my job doesn't go away, it's going to become less important to my company and not as good of an opportunity.

I've been trying to move out of state, and I'm ready to sell my condo and get something new, so I'm going to try to use this as an opportunity to relocate. I'll probably stay with my company, but I'll be looking elsewhere too. I want to move to Colorado or Arizona, but right now San Jose, Ca and Boston are the highest probability for me. Either way it's going to be an interesting search. Wish me luck.

San Jose would be great for me being that it's silicon valley. I'm just scared to see housing prices. I have a feeling that even with an increase in salary, I'll be taking a big step back ie (probably having to rent, probably something smaller)

Thanks for the tip Norton.

I need to talk to some people in my company. There is a spot open on the Apple account team doing exactly what I am now. Plus I know that the head of the account team is stepping down soon so I could probably take over tat role.

Imagine that Tony, I could be the one shaping how your apple products perform. Currently my company has about 25 parts in the apple iphone.

I might be young and stupid, but I'm not worried about selling my place (at a profit) at all. Plus I'm in no rush to find a job so it's a great position.

I can deal with the snow if I can ski, like in Colorado. But my brother just moved to Arizona and it would be fun to go down there.

i vote Arizona, my parent live there and it is great. MM-racing and Moparboy have been out there with me several times. 9 months of riding weather and smooth flat roads that have curves. and Vegas is a nice short ride away.

Don't go to Colorado, the sun shines for 300 days a year, how depressing is that?

Skiing? Shoot, the traffic up to the mountains from Denver is worse than morning commute from the burbs into Chicago. They are thinking about placing a $25 per trip tax just to go up to the mountains, it's ridiculous, too many people have moved there in the past 10 years. Damn outta staters.

Thanks for the offer Bug. I should be fine. I have good connections in the industry and a proven record, I'm just trying to find the right opportunity out there for me (and the right place to move to).

I found a pretty interesting job in Arizona with a good company called Microchip. I'm going to pursue that. I also need to have a meeting with some of the executives in my company to see what they feel would be a good internal move. I know I could get a job in Boston doing product marketing traveling across the U.S., but I don't want to move to boston. I think the apple job might be my best bet right now.

Thanks Wink.

After talking to my boss he too recommends it time to search for a new job. I inquired about the apple job today. They are interviewing someone for the job, but if that falls through I have a pretty good shot. There is an opening here in Illinois I can get doing what my old job was. It's kind of a step down in my career, even though I would make more money. If I decide to stay in Illinois that is an option.

I'm going to have some more conversations this week and see what the outlook is. While I want to move, I'm still hesitant about it. I'm kind of upset that I didn't get the full opportunity to be as successful as possible (I won a big contract, but Motorola is going to break up before all the revenue is realized).
