Fire in garage adds to headache

Well I took a shower and was going to head out and tried to start the car from in the house and the remote basically chirped saying the car wasn't in range. I tried again and same thing so I threw on pants and went out to the deck to try and found the garage smoking and on fire inside. Was determined that the car was the cause of the fire (electrical). Nothing like having a 02 dodge with less then 60 miles on driven only in winter to start fire on you out of no where.

I will post up pictures after day light breaks this is all I had the patients to post as I had to leave and get some fresh air after being inside of the garage salvaging what i could.

Is that some type of personal security camera the video was taken from? Looks like a nice setup.

! How does a car start on fire while just sitting there?

Sorry, bro. Hope insurance does what it's supposed to.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Was it after trying to start it with the key fob or did it already appear to be burning? Without an outside influence "electrical" is kinda tough, when was the last time you drove it? "Electrical" is often times a catch-all that the FD uses.

If you don't mind me asking do you live on the north side or south side? What insurance company do you have?

Do you have an aftermarket alarm or remote start system on the car? I'd be far more inclined to blame the butcher-installed aftermarket alarm on starting the fire than the car itself.

The car was driven earlier in the day about 8 prior. The key fob as i stated was beeping as if it was not in range which tells me the car was on fire prior to me trying it.

Why would it matter what side of town it is on? and the car has full coverage which in this case is all that matters.

Well looking at the car they cut up the hood of the car where the battery was tells me that it was in fact electrical of some sort not sure what shorted but it is definitely electrical

Well I will give credit to where it is deserved the car contained the fire enough that it did not get out of control and spread to the neighbors garage. Tho I will say this It was going inside pretty good when I went inside before the fire department got there. Kinda of exotic seeing the flames inside up until the point the tire popped and scared the shit out of me and brought me back to reality. Note to shelf do not go into burning structure next time.

Well all in all everyone was ok no other damage and i didnt need anymore medical attention other then the 16 liters of O2 for the smoke i took in. and well i got your a fucking nut for going inside like that.

Heres the pictures

BTW if you looking for a good time Hang with me never know what your going to encounter

Did a fire investigator come out or did the guys on scene tell you that? I'm not saying they're wrong. I asked what side of town because that would determine what investigator came out if indeed an investigator responded (OFI is split into North and South in chicago).

I'm not trying to be nosey, I work in fire investigations and I have family in the business in chicago, and it's interesting to me that's all. It definitely sounds like your insurance agency will send an investigator out if the loss was great enough. Good luck with your claim I'm sure everything will go smoothly.

No bomb and arson was not called out if thats what your asking CPD which was going to call B-A was denied since the bat. chief denied it stating the cause. As you can see from the pics its near the battery which is apparent that that was the source and most likely electrical.

Sorry nick if i coming across like an ass atm but food poisoning along with the last couple weeks are taking a serious toll on me as I am not sure what more i can take before just loosing it. Tho all in all I have yet to let any emotion out yet even tho i feel like banging my head off a wall a few times

I had a fire in the house once and that just makes you crap your pants on the spot!

Not to be mean.. but when I watched the video, I kept hearing the Benny Hill theme song in my head as they were scurring around in high speed.

I will say this from exprience... you are alive and nobody got hurt.
All else is replaceble.

By the way.. I think I noticed a 50" LCD in the trunk of you car that got water damaged by the fire.

Wow bro... that's some serous bad luck you've been having. I'm really sorry hear about this, but glad to hear it was contained somewhat and didn't spread to the house or other peoples houses or garages. At least you're alright... anything else can be replaced. I hope everything goes smoothly with the insurance claim

Keep your chin up... your luck will turn around and things will get better. From the sound of it you could pretty much only go up from here

Good luck!
