Where's George.com

Anyone heard of this: WWW.WheresGeorge.com

I've received two $1 with ink stamps on them that said www.wheresgeorge.com and I went to the page. It's a currency tracking "hobby".

I've re-entered the bills into the Where's George page and started an account there. I'm curious where these marked bills go after they leave my hands.

Yeah, I used to do that religiously, but than it's novelty sorta faded away... pretty cool though, found some bills that made crazy travels.

Man, what really sucks is they don't sell those stamps anymore on the websites (the ones to stamp the bills), so unless my bill falls into hands of an avid "wheresgeorge"er, my odds of getting hits is pretty damn small... I have 81 bills that I initialy inputed, and I haven't gotten one hit on any of them... :-/ But it hasn't been a year yet since the first bill I put it so we'll see.

I think he is referring to the creator of "Wheresgeorge.com" who is on the youtube video at that time.

That's my guess anyway

So I figured I'd play along for a bit...just to see what happens.

I used the "laser" I have at work to make some rubber stamps, and stamped up some dollars that I spent today:

I'll see where they go.

Oh yeah, I'm not sure I mentioned that I have a 35 watt laser at work that I can engrave things?

Isn't it illegal to deface money like that?

You're going to jail for a long time Raven.

I don't have the link with me here at my work computer, but the law states that Defacement is removing or rendering useless the security features of a bill, or damaging it with intent of keeping it from being circulated.

Since the whole point of these is a currency circulation tracking, it hasn't been deemed illegal. In fact, when the Where's George? page first started, it was investigated by the Feds, and the only thing they had an issue with was that Where's George.com sold rubber stamps for profit...which when combined with the web page being pimped on "legal tender" made it advertising for profit. Once the sales of Stamps were removed, it's all been legal.

The Where's George web page just celebrated it's 8th anniversary. If all this were illegal, then the 4.5 Million users and 122 MILLION bills in circulation would all have been dealt with long ago.

So...no. I see no issues here.

I am referring to the guy in the video, 9.24 mark. So I'm in Cleveland on a work trip and guess what, I get a bill stamped as change at the food court. The only thing is it's a $5, so I guess the question is "Where is Abe?

I got my first hit!

My first hit on one of my bills

I've input nearly 100 singles and nearly 100 two dollar bills. And was getting miffed that I didn't get a single hit yet. Especially after Brianne put in maybe two dozen total and got a hit the next day!

Kinda cool. I wonder where the bill will go next?

PM me your address, I'll make you one and send it out to you.

I'll also send along some Georges for you to spend in hopes that I get some hits with some distance on them!

It's only cheating if YOU hit the bills. But if you spend them and someone else hits the bill, that'd be a Righteous Hit!

Actually, me hitting the bills wouldn't necesarilly be cheating either. Not if it's your "gift" to me lol.
