Comcast DVR Frustration

Over the winter we retired our ReplayTV with analog cable in favor of Comcast HD with DVR.

My Replay had the ability to record any show at any time on any channel based on the word "motorcycle" in the description. After setting up this recording "channel", I was able to capture nearly every motorcycle race or program aired, year after year.

So far, I've been unable to replicate this functionality with the Comcast box. I don't want to scroll through the guide EVERY week to see when SPEED is airing AMA, WSB, and MotoGP. I just want the thing find the programs and record them without my constant intervention. Anyone know how to do this?

Get a ReplayTV system.

Not a complete solution....but find a couple races and observe what a common word in the listing of those races. I believe "motorcycle" will list most if not all of the races you desire.

You can also search by Speed Channel only, find your race, and hopefully create a series recording. Although last year, series recording was not an option.

Good luck, I feel your pain.

FWIW I've had both TIVO & DVR units with DirecTV. With both, a search based on "Motorcycle Racing" grabs all MotoGP classes, World Superbike & Supersport, AMA FX, SS, SB, + some MotoX & SM races.

I love both my DirecTivo units and my DirecTV HD-DVRs.

Is it me or is the search criteria only 5 characters on the Comcast DVR? This returns all kinds of shite that I don't want.

^ yeah I want a Tivo too. I heard those things are the easiest to use. My comcast DVR blows donkey balls. If for some reason it records an HD show and the signal gets messed up for few mins and goes analog the playback gets all screwy too. POS Motorola garbage. Might I add Motorola sucks too?

Plus you can sign in to your Tivo account online and request programs to record. I was a BWW on a snowy evening when I realized I forgot to set my tivo to record a show I wanted to watch that starts in 30 minutes. I logged into my account, set it and when I got home it was on my now playing list. Awesome!

You can search on the Comcast box for anything that is motorcycle racing, but I have the same problem that sometimes it misses stuff. Also any show that you want to record the damn Comcast POS records it every damn time it comes on and there isn't a way to just set it to record at a certain time each week if you know that the show is on at that time each week. You can record only "new episodes", but that bs never works it always records the old crap as well.

I'll be getting rid of Comcast when I get out of the condo. I recommend everyone else do the same. They suck.

The comcast DVR is basic IMO and does not have the options like Tivo. I deal with it but I never had Tivo so I'm ignorant. You're right, it will record the show over again if it's replayed so you have duplicates on there.

I left Comcast because of their horrid DVR service. If I remember correctly the best you can do is set it to record "MotoGP", "AMA Superbike" and "World Superbike"...but if they change the name for a specific event for any reason your'e screwed.

I got a Tivo as a Christmas present a couple of years back. The same year the Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident happened! I had the game on but missed this historical moment but Tivo came to the rescue on that!

The comcast dvr can get very annoying-- but I don't have or want a landline so Tivo wasn't an option. Is that still the case with Tivo?

3rd declaration: In such extreme circumstances, the law is by definition inadequate. To shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law, to pursue natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive-it is an emotional response. Vengeance serves no larger purpose. Society does not benefit from vengeance. Violent men are not deterred by acts of vengeance. The only appropriate response to their actions is the one I have chosen to pursue: a course of purposed, intentional violence. Violence intended to instruct, as much as destruct. A course, in a word, of punishment

The Comcast Tivo DVR should be available in Chicago sometime in the next year.
