New traffic ticket van!!!

I was driving with my wife last night up to her uncles house. We were traveling up 355 and I spotted an odd flash up ahead which caught my attention. then I saw it a few more times, and told her to slow down, sure enough as we came up to it, it was a sprinter van (usually the state has chevy's) completely unmarked and brown or dark silver in color. had a nice big flash integrated into the back of roof line and was taking pictures of speeders.

this is just another example of our rights being chiseled away piece by piece so we don't notice them disappearing. years ago in this state they wanted to bring traffic cams in to boost revenue. but they couldn't as it invaded right to privacy laws. hen 9/11 happened and Daley got his crime cameras, then it was to protect us form the "red light runners" who don't stop fully at the white line before making the dreaded right hand turn on red. Then after that we needed the vans to protect the construction workers........ Now we are just parking them on the side of the highway and ticketing people on a normal wednesday afternoon, not in a construction area. So the government got their way, it just took them a few years to do the end run around us, the people who elected them and pay their salary.

But after all it's to make us safer I'm sure. But then again I'm sure the drunk drivers love these cameras, cant get a DUI from a camera van.

If you have the right to speed, please post a URL.

I'm not saying I like what they are doing about it, but you are not losing any 'right' with it, IMO.

With this van all it becomes is a new "road tax" it's not promoting traffic safety in any way, it used to be they had to post signs saying traffic cams were in use up ahead. there were none of those signs, in place and furthermore these vans ad no police contact, drunk drivers are getting off easy, Drivers with no insurance are getting away, drivers with no license are getting away, and it goes on from there.

Don't even get me started on how the speed limits on this states highway system are too low.

there is no other reason for this van being on the road besides revenue generation. if they want to raise tax's, do it the old fashion way. this sneaky end run bullshit is out of line.

I thought Republicans where OK with the Big Brother watching them as long as it means you are more secure(aka Patriot Act). You know, that you have nothing to hide crap. Or does that only apply when you lose money?

It's only a matter of time until the state starts handing out designated plates that indicate if the driver/owner has a DUI, 70+ drivers, -20 drivers, etc etc.

Exactly, absolute proof that they could stop illegal immigration in less than a month if they wanted to and were not making huge profits exploiting those folks.

Like Tony said, this has nothing to do with safety, it is just revenue motivated as just about everything else is now including the illegal immigration problem. It is damn tough to stop greedy people, but it can be done.

I thought there was some law out there stating an officer must hand you a ticket in person. I think it has been overwritten since all this automated crap started happening, but when it first started, I remember some controversy.

Anyway, lets flip our plates up when the season starts and see how fast we are really going.

Fine, that will free up police officers to spend more time 'protecting and serving' instead of enforcing traffic laws.

Also, Europe has had speed cameras for years, we are just behind the curve.

In London, you can't go to work without passing nearly 1000 security cameras!

You know what's big business out there? videos of people banging in the backseat of cars in parking lots. Guess where all those videos are coming from?

Is that what we want here? Not I.

Speaking of cameras, my office is 2 blocks from the Cook Country courthouse, and our security cameras caught a judge in the parking lot, getting tanked in his car during lunch.

Yea and all of their gps mappnig software comes with exact or general locations of each and every camera too haha. It's still a pain in the ass. Get this government shit out of our lives. I have enough to worry about and keep me busy without it.

If y protecting ad serving, you mean ignoring drunk drivers, illegals with no license/insurance, drug traffickers, stolen cars etc.... then your dead on. casue thats who they catch by doing traffic stops. using cameras instead, lets all these people go.

If you are out in public on a public rooadway how is it a invasion of your privacy? If we didn't have speeders (and I am one of them) we wouldn't need them. On the flip side thanks for the 411 so I know what to look for!
