Ulcers?

Anyone here have a history of ulcers?

Here's the story..

My dad had a ruptured ulcer about 2 years ago, he's been good/healthy since, but for the past few days he's had constant nose bleeds. I've asked the nurses at my office and they said that it could be related to the ulcer, and my sister says it could be due to the weather changes. I've tried to persuade him to see his doc but he's too stubborn to.

Should i be concerned? He's 59 years old..

Thanks.

depending on how constant, I would see the doctor regardless of a history of ulcers. Plus, I don't see how an ulcer would cause a bloody nose, but i'm no doctor.

Definitely get it checked out. I get nose bleeds every morning. Mine was simple though I have ruptured capillaries and in the mornings while everything is opening up they open up and bam blood.

It could be a whole lot of things though so it's good to get it checked out. Mine was an easy fix of chemically burning and cauterizing the capillaries. They rupture again every so many years but it's nothing a quick run to the doc doesn't fix.

For the record, having a long matchstick looking thing stuck up your nose that cauterizes your blood vessels... is not the most fun experience in the world haha.

Hey Rob,

I think u guys know that my dad past away from stomach cancer? Although, there's no history of cancer in my family. I did ask the doctors about that and they said that it could have been from the ulcers my dad used to get. Anyways, don't mess around when it comes to ulcers, get him checked out right away.

What's up Larry, thanks for that info. I'm going to forward this to my older brother so he can persuade my dad to see his doc, since me talking to him isn't doing squat.

Sorry to hear about your pops btw..

Ulcers are caused by bacteria and not by stress. True story.

No, but judging by the blood stains on the wall in teh bathroom that i saw this morning, this isn't the normal 'tilt your head back to stop the bleeding' kinda nose bleed.

My sister's gonna take him to the dr. Thanks for the responses.

I ended up taking him to the er @ 4am this morning. Apparently, he popped a blood vessel that's causing the massive amounts of blood secreting from this nostrils. His BP was way up, something like 210/130's. I'm stuck at work so my moms going to take him to see his doc to do more tests.
