All of our showdogs get Pro Plan chicken and rice. I have fed everything from raw diets to some of the best all natural diets....my guys seem to do great on pro plan. I get great coats, small stools, and purina donates money to the various breed clubs (The doberman Pinscher Club of America in our case) for health research. We keep the weight circles from all pro plan bags and purina in turns donates money to our researchers at various universities.

I've been feeding my doggie Canidae. Before that, we tried Nutro Ultra. Both make his coat considerably softer than the Pro Plan he ate before. Also, my pup seems to have sensitive skin and stomach, and the Nutro and Canidae seem to have helped greatly in reducing irritation to both.

It's a really good food, especially for the money. Mao...can you start savings me those weight circles from your bags? Those weight circles = free research money for the breed clubs.

Krys...not sure how old Sasha is or if she is losing coat yet (blue dobe thing...condition called color dilution alopecia) but I can give you some supplements to add to her daily routine that will help her coat out a bit.

Hi Kelly, it is possibly for a blue min pin to get this. CDA (color dilution alopecia) affects many breeds and affects about 90% of all blue Dobermans. We are unsure how many min pins it affects because while a blue min pin can be registered with the AKC, we do not show blues (The min pin club of america does not recoginize the blue color) and since we can't show them, they aren't bred in the show community. This limits our ability to keep statistics on the genetics of this paticular color in the gene pool.

Typically the disease starts after the dog has reached maturity. Here is a great, yet brief explanation of the disease:

http://www.upei.ca/cidd/Diseases/der...20alopecia.htm

Sorry to hijack the original thread, but hope this helps come people.

Krys...if she has kept most of her coat at 4...chances are she will maintain that coat until old age!! Typically CDA tends to start around 2/ and by 3 is pretty bad.

The nutro is GOOD food...I used to feed it and did really well with it. How sensitive id her stomach? Barlene's flax seed oil (found in health food stores or whole foods) is a staple in the Doberman community for coats...especially people with diluted colors (blues and fawns). The only problms is it is RICH...and has to be used in tiny amounts. If the dog even has the slightest bit of a sensitive stomach, it can cause IBS or vomiting.

Also, a soap free shampoo is ideal... or something VERY soathing such as oatmeal.

So...Dobie playdate with Sasha, Loki and Mimi soon?

I know I'll get crap from some of you, but we feed Max Purina One puppy food. He loves it, but then again I think he would eat anything. We call him a goat sometimes.

His coat is very shiny, like black velvet, although his skin is a little dry because of the weather.

My personal opinion is feed what works for you and your dog. Black coats tend to show dander in the winter. A little help...add fatty acids to the food. A tsp of Barlene's flax seed oil works wonders. Also...a light mist of avon skin so soft bath oil rubbed into the coat following a bath does wonders.
