Ipass fines

So when I got a new car, I only added the temp plate to my ipass account and forgot to register the new plate. So I got a bill in the mail today for $838.60!! Holy Safari's! It even included a nice little picture of my plate. lol

I only owe like 30 bucks in tolls and there is no way I am paying that money except for the 30 bucks.

How do I get out of this?

Explain it just like you did here. You should be fine as long as your transponder is active and in good standing.

+1.

Hopefully they'll be reasonable. Since you didn't register your permanent plate they could be harsh and say, "too bad so sad."

Hahahaa!!! That ain't bad Aaron... I got a bill last week for $2,968!!

Since it was your fault and you didn't update your plates, I don't think you can get out of it. Be careful, my boss (who's a lawyer) said that if you don't pay it, they will double the fine and if you still don't pay that they can and will pursue legal action against you.

EDIT: After reading the other responses I might be wrong about them letting you out of it but I'm not having any luck getting out of mine right now.

look on the back, they are tacking $20 onto each fine and jacking it up, if you have a valid ipass account then call up and clear it

For a while I was switching vehicles almost every year, & never updated plate numbers on my account. I was also moving often and by the time the bill caught up with me it was over $2k as well.

I called them, explained the mistake, then updated my account info to include all my plate numbers.

They charged me only the tolls with no fines or penalties. What I hadn't realized is that my D.L. was under suspension at that time due to the toll violations. I had no other tix so I was a little freaked out to say the least. It got cleared up quickly though...

P.S. This was back in '05

Happen to me even my plate is registered. I talked to them and told me just to send the payment, but don't include the $20 charge on each violation. Make sure you added your IPASS account number on the document they send you.

My wife just called me saying we got a letter saying we owe $134 something dollars for missed tolls. What's weird is my ipass never leaves my car and is always mounted on my windshield.

She's freaking out because she can't get through because the lines are all busy.

To bypass the prompts just hit zero several times

Well at least your plate is registered. You might have a dead battery so the transponder isn't sending the signal.

You're all good. Once you get through to them they'll fix the charges.

my mom and sister are on my ipass and have gotten ticketed a few times before i put them on the account. once they were on the account all fines were eliminated. like it was said before, call and explain and you'll be fine.

Obviously something is going on at the IL tollway authority because everyone in my office got violations this week. None of us can get through to clear it up. Typical.

I had this happen before, got over $2500 in fines and 'missed' tolls. I spent 3 hrs on the phone with the hirl and we went through line by line...turns out for each 'missed' toll a duplicate toll had been registered and paid. So in the end, I only ended up with 3 missed tolls...a grand total of $1.20. Now...think of all the people who only have a handful of missed tolls and don't double check and pay it. Nice scam they have going....

Damn, and my wife was bitching about $82.00 . Problem is at the time of the violations we did'nt have an Ipass. I just go one last Sept. Think they will do anything? Same plate in the picture is now currently on wife's new car.
