Z06 poll

Well here I go again. After driving my Vette for a year I decided me and Vettes do fit for a long term relationship. I was looking to step up to an 08 with a manual trans, Z51 and dual stage exhaust so I stopped by the dealership Saturday on my way home from the office. With trading in my 07 it would only cost $10k otd. A little pain, but not out of line. As I'm talking to the sales guy he asked more about my history. I muttered something about bikes, but no more track days because of kids and titanium bits. So he chimed in with "You are looking at the wrong Vette". "You need a Z06" and "let's go for a ride". I'm going no that's cool I really don't want to drop $40k more to get into one just for 500hp. The Z51 and dual exhaust really gets me where I want to be. He came back with 1. There is a whole lot more going on than the 7.0 liter mill and 2. You don't want to go for a ride in a new Z06? About that time I woke up and said, sure let's ride.

Maybe a bad decision. The clutch is better, the shifter is better, the wheel is better, it sets up and turns better, it brakes better and when I kicked it in the tail with the traction control off at 30 it lit up the rear end, started fishtailing till she hooked up and took off like all the demons of hell were after it. The Z06 is just wicked fast and worth the $. Plus, no one is out there waving $ at dealers right now and I can wheel and deal on it vs. getting hit for $5k over sticker.

So now I'm all hot and bothered and thinking about it. I called my CPA to see if he finished my taxes and if we landed on "target" with our estimates before I pulled the trigger. He said he didn't call on Friday as he didn't want to ruin my weekend. We were off by solid 5 figures and I need to cut a BIG check in 2 weeks. Bruce's nuts shriveled up and I lost my chubby as I only do toys in cash and that hurts. I can still do it, but I also like saving.

So now I'm going back and forth. I can blow the whole thing off. Just do a coupe or in some form finance the Z06. I'd probably just do a home equity around prime and deduct it. All told, it would cost +-$700 a month for 4-5 years or whenever I catch up.

So what do you guys think?

Blow it off and save up for an easy cash only deal in a year or so, the 07 is already more than enough?
Do the 08 coupe which is still a rocket and won't hurt much?
End all discussion and get the Z06?

Of course, I know this board so 1/2 anticipate where this will head.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

I think your failing to see the real answer here, your accountant is trying to tell you that you need more writeoffs. Gifting that Vette to me would take of that, then you wont have to write that big check and you can feel better about buying your new one, and you will have fulfilled one of my dreams in the process

Tony, keep dreaming. Now, if you ask nice I will let you drive pretty much anything I own. I don't get too worked on that kind of stuff. You know that. Just don't break it.

John, I have red and am leaning toward black. What is AT?

if you truely CAN afford the Z06, why not? If you're asking us to twist your arm cuz it's not really in your best intrest, than don't do it.

The Z06 will also hold it's value a little better than the regular vette

AT and Z06? It's not even an option and getting rid of the AT is the primary reason I went to the dealership in the first place.

No More Redheads!!! Already divorsed one and not in the market.

I guess you didn't learn a thing when I was looking for "info" on the Lotus.

Honestly, I really do like my '03 Z06 and have pretty low mileage on it. As much as I like the new ones, a few years without car payments is sounding real attractive, and I also suspect the '03 gets better gas mileage.

I heard you, I had my $.02 on Z06 vs. Lotus posted back there too. Learning may be something a little different. Great car, but even Top Gear said it would be hard to deal with for a daily ride.

The Z06 is much more than just a big engine in a regular vette. The Z06 handles much better than the regular vette, its on par with the 911 as far as handling goes. Its easily the best sports car for $100K and it can go toe to toe with cars that are over $100K. It has a different suspension system, I believe the frame is made out of aluminum. Carbon fiber body panels to reduce weight. Magnesium engine block. Titanium connecting rods and valves. Brembo brakes.
