Boring Meetings...

How do you guys get through meetings that have nothing to do with you yet you are required to attend? I have another 90 minutes on this one. My only source of sanity is CLSB..

I like to doodle a lot while I'm in meetings... and just stare out the windows and hope I get to see a car accident or something interesting outside. The other day I got to watch an ambulance pick someone up at Lifetime Fitness...

I guess it depends on a few things. Do you have a computer in front of you? Are there people around you just as bored that have wandering eyes? Can you go unnoticed in the meeting if you were staring elsewhere?

If you have a computer, thats easy, just browse the internet while looking up every now and then nodding.

If you dont have a computer (which I usually dont), go buy a book of mind puzzles (Sudoku, crosswords, and such) and just tear out a page or two for the meeting, throw it in a notebook and pretend youre taking notes. It worked for me throughout college and saved me from dozing off in some meetings.

Thankfully, almost all of my meetings are teleconferenced in so I usually just do more work and duck out early for the day. Which involves showering or putting on something other than the pj's i'm in and then going to happy hour haha.

Bottom line is most meetings are 95% drivel and 5% useful information, thus costing our economy TRILLIONS of dollars in productivity!!! Maybe we should stop having so many. The company I work for loves meetings and they love to schedule them as early as possible. One started at 7:30am! Im not even contemplating getting out of bed around that time!

If you can get people to accept things like that off the bat, then youre clear. I started coming in at 10:30 for work when I started and now its just assumed thats when Im coming in.

Man that's one thing I miss about my old job. Some days I would come in at 7am and other days I would waltz in at 10am or 11am and no one cared. Not to mention 2 hour lunches were the norm. Now I've got to be at work at 8am on the dot and can only take a 2 hour lunch, max and then have to work til 4:30pm. UGH!
