Knee surgery.....

My knee is F**ked. I'm having surgery on Friday morning. The doc says he will try to remove as little of the meniscus as possible. If they have to take too much I have to have a followup surgery in a few weeks with a "donor" meniscus. (gross) I will be mobile again by Sunday, he's hoping for me walking on sat. Everyone keep me in mind when you are out riding this weekend. I'll be home on liquid loritab. I did ask, and was given the ok to still take my MSF course early next month, so all's well there. That's the biggest plus to all this, short recovery time. Blah, I'm going to make myself a drink. ~Mandy

I don't ride, I cook!

My pops had the same thing last year, he got some corpse parts.

I doubt you'll be walking so soon...not without crutches, at least.

About three or so years ago my wife had surgery for a hole a little under the size of a dime in her miniscus. They slipped in and used an "ice pick" to poke at the miniscus to "stimulate" growth. Rehab wasn't fun, but she is fully mobile.

The doctors told her if she wanted to play competative sports, she'd need a lot more work, including the possiblity of corpse tissue. Oh, how I would have loved me some zombie knee jokes!

Anyway...

Check this place out orthoindy.com - we went there and they were in trials for a new technique that replaces the damaged tissue with a type of grown tissue that matches your own. Turn around is half for this implant as opposed to traditional grown tissue replacement, or other treatments. We would have done that, but it was a blind study and she would have been going back to Indy once or more a year for the next ten years.

Thanks, unfortunatly this is Mandy's Knee surgery II. I had surgery 8 years ago, they did repair stuff then. I have to have meniscus removed as it is torn again, and can't be repaired again. I will follow directions to the letter, I don't want a knee replacement at 30. That's my next step if this doesn't work. ~Mandy
