Nissan Titan VS Locomotive SD40

Another fun day on the railroad. I cannot talk much about the incident, and I am pretty shaken up by it. But, please let this be a lesson to all of us. Please be careful around railroad tracks and do not drive around crossing gates trying to beat a train. You may win. But if you lose, it looks like this.

Second picture shows the grill lying there. I should have saved it and the headlight for Tony. The third picture is the damage to my locomotive. Just some scrapes. At this time no one is reporting an injury. I hit this truck at under 10 mph, and I only had one engine and two empty cars. You can only imagine the damage if I had more cars or more speed. Take your time when driving, all trains will clear your way sooner or later.

This happened in my railyard. These were people that work around trains all the time. No crossing gates, they were driving on a fire road. IMO that makes it worse because they should know better. I will post those as attachments tonight when I get home from work.

And if I were riding the side of a car and shoved into that, my legs would have been between the box car and that truck.

Thank goodness no one was hurt, that could have been much worse. I've been on a train that hit a truck broadside doing 65mph+.

I'd like to be there when that guy calls his insurance company.

We are not suppost to stop and block a road crossing for more than 10 minutes. If we are moving or switching (moving back and forth) we can block most roads for an eternity. Some major roads are considered 911 crossings (Lagrange is one) and if you block it you must separate your train to unblock the crossing.
Chris, the truck I hit was being used by car department (they inspect freight cars). The truck was a rental, and I was told they bought the $12 a day insurance policy on it.

Looks like that guy got off easy, minimal damage considering it was hit by a locomotive. The worst one I saw was one of the railroad employees driving along the tracks next to the train, going in the same direction but faster than the train. He gets to a crossing a few feet in front of the locomotive and turns right in front of it! Caved the whole side of the truck in. The moron still had a job after it too .

Sometimes on my SR route i get stuck by a railyard near the nuke plant.

The train would go back and forth unhooking cars on different tracks.
The sound it made when the operator would change directions was just awesome.
Every car would clang into eachother in a cascading series of extremely loud WHAM!!s

The power of those engines is just staggering.

I had one stopped, blocking an intersection for 15 minutes not including the time it was going through the intersection before it came to a complete stop. The crappy part for me was that it was almost though when it stopped. My alderman said they are fined for blocking the intersection, but apparently not enough to stop them from blocking intersections.
