Cool iphone alternatives

In case you can't wait for the 3G or simply don't care to spend the cash, my buddy got this phone but also looked at a bunch of others that seem pretty cool.

HTC Touch
http://www.htctouch.com/
I tinkered around with it last night. Don't get me wrong, I dig the Iphone and both are pretty much similar but the 2 things that I liked better than the Iphone were that it's smaller making it much easier to hold and it goes for $180 with contract. In the Iphones favor is the simplicity and design. If you like lot's of icons, gadgets and tools all shown at once, the HTC is for you, otherwise for a more simple look, the Iphone wins. Also the downside of the iphone size has a positive in that using its screen is a bit easier.

Samsung F700
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/cellphone...ier-235112.php
The 2 things this phone has are 3G and a keyboard. Apparently the big pain in the ass for him now is that he sends out around 1000 texts a month and hates the touch screen since it's tough to do it without looking.

And my personal favorite (who knows when it will arrive in the US) is the Nokia N96 which puts all of the above phones to shame, but will probably charge you that extra shame out of your pocket. The N95 is out now, but I'd rather wait for the 96. Who can get a discount!?

I agree, hard to dial while driving on touch screen (voice dial FTW!), much less text........not that I do that.

Who offers the HTC? AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-mobile.......???

OK, I like it but I don't like the service. But I see there is a GSM version on ebay. No discount like he got though.....d'oh!

ehhh...hopefully its competivily priced...i'm runnin a treo 700p right now and i love palm. my phone as it is can do everything that an iphone can do and then some. i wonder what palm plans to do against the iphone. they need to address 2 issues; size and u.i. apple is a software company so the u.i.'s are gonna be amaizing. i hope palm can counter.

I used to run it on a PDA and it was ok. Some good, some so so about it. I'd hope in the few years it's been since I used it that it's a little better, no?

See, thing is: i've been a microsoft guy for the bulk of my professional life.
And, i dont' even bother with windows mobile. It's a very clunky os. When i had palm treo, it would hang every few days. Battery life sucked too. Now i have a black-berry and i never look back.
As for battery life, this is one of the biggest problems with iphones. My friend has to charge it EVERY SINGLE DAY.

The Mogul 6800 would be my choice if I stuck with US Cellular who is my current provider.

It's slow. Applications hang. YES, HANG It requires a reboot frequently.
Features are fine, but the os has a pretty big footprint and eats up alot of battery life. Especially if you check your email using IMAP or POP3.
