Say A Prayer

I just got out of the hospital, my 24 year old nephew might have cancer ,
it's a mas near his heart ventrical and lung. It's putting a lot of pressure
on his organs .If you heard of any kind of masses around that area that weren't cancerios or that are post because doctors are on the hush.

Thanks guys, update now he can only sleep up right ,
the pressure has increased on his lungs they are saying
it's 5-6 inches. My question is why are they only taking
an x-ray and cat-scan, why not an m.ri. and a ultra sound
before they go and explore this thing., can anybody make sence
of this?

Truly not intending to make a joke, find a (or another) Jewish doctor for a second or even third opinion before they perform invasive or otherwise risky explorations and tests.

No one here is going to know the 'why'.. This can be very uncharted territory and there are lots of things that can get worse by doing the wrong thing in that area. This is where communication with the physicians is very important. Remember, they are human too and the approach that I have found works best is to ask them in a way like: "Please help me understand why we're doing this..." (Whatever 'this' happens to be)..

As someone also said, loop in more professional opinions if you can or hint at it with questions like "Is this standard procedure for something like this?" or "what have you done in the past for this condition and what were the results?", or even this good one: "Who in the area is considered the expert on things like this?"

...they are not accusatory or demanding but a smooth way to let them know you are concerned about them receiving the best possible care and are open to the idea of what other doctors think and feel about the situation while remaining completely professional and respectful about it.

...continued prayers that a comfortable resolution can be obtained and that everyone in the family can be strong for each other.

Everyone Exaggerates

He's in my thoughts and prayers. What hospital is he at? If he is not at a teaching hospital...he needs to be. The BEST Dr's and oncologists in the country are at your fingertips... Loyola, Northwestern, UIC, University of Chicago etc etc. I am speaking from experience, Dr's don't always know or do the best thing for the patient's. My brother was misdiagnosed for over a year because Dr's refused to say 'I just don't know what it could be...let's call in some other opinions'. Instead they kept guessing (and guessed wrong!) until a point he was so ill, we could have lost him. We became his advocates and better yet....he became his own advocate. He then enlisted the Top specialists in the world for his disease, and because of them he is alive. If you feel they are not doing enough, not being agressive enough etc...then they probably aren't.
