Lost Dove...found

Anyone in the NW suburbs hear or see anything for a lost dove. Please let me know... Mike and I have a dove that was outside on the grill and is very friendly towards people and very sweet. At first I thought it was a pigeon, but then was told it might be a dove. So.. just in case someone has seen something. We've put out flyers, but if no one calls by tonight we are prolly just going to let him go. What else can I do?

Bikes can be replaced...people can't...ride safe!!

Some cat would go along with that just great. Check with Mao for recipe.

Yea it was outside.. and Mike was taking pics of it saying the closer he got it didn't move at all. So I went out there to see if I could touch it. And I picked him up.. cool. He wasn't eating the break we put out there so figured he was eating bird food or something. The bird is very nice, and relaxed in the house.

I don't know; that might make a cool pet. Maybe take it to a vet and see what he/she suggests.

One way to tell if was someones pet is to stick your index finger out like you're pointing and putting it up against the birds chest. See if it jumps up on your finger.

You usually teach a bird that when it's young. Maybe say the words "step up" and see what happens.

I'm not sure if Ring Necked Doves are common "wild" birds around here.

"Hey thank you.....thanks...ive been blessed with the gift of flight, i know how to fly im in here standing on a STICK! hey ive already read these newspapers! in fact ive whited out some typos."

No it's for sure someone's pet. I know that for a fact. We are going to keep it over night and wait till tomorrow... if no one calls or wants it then going to take it to shelter or something. This bird kicks ass though...

I wonder if they have any homing instincts like homing pigeons. If you let it go would it return home? Sure would be a cool pet.

Well this am someone forgot to close the door after going to the bathroom or something and the cat almost got it. But it's all good. He's staying in the bed room for now in a box when we are not home. But when we get home we just let him out and he usually just chills on the closet door. Going to call some shelters today to see if they'll take it.

I read something in the Trib today about doves... bottom line, the practice of releasing a pair of doves at weddings, etc. should be discouraged... birds that have been hand-raised are NOT prepared for life in the wild... they don't know how to search for food and are not always welcomed into existing flocks of wild birds.

Poor thing...

Is it noisy? I wouldn't mind a bird but don't want to be up at 5am because this thing decides the sun is up.
