I need help cleaning carbs on a 250

I need to get the carbs cleaned on the 250 and I am a total tard and can't do it. Any chance someone is available some night this week to help me?? I live in Lake in the Hills and since the bike doesn't run I need someone to come out to me to help. I'll buy ya some beer and pizza or something.

Pretty please with a cherry on top? .

If the bike isn't running, why do you think the carbs need cleaning

Well the bike sat for 5 years and had a full tank of gas in it and was not winterized at all... I'm sure the carbs are all gummed up by now. I have replaced the battery, changed the oil, emptied the gas and put fresh gas in it and the bike starts but it only idles for a minute or so and then it dies... if I give it any throttle it dies and if I take the choke off it dies. From what I've read and been told the carbs need to be cleaned.

Errrrrr.... nope. A friend and I tried to do it and we couldn't get to them. The damn air box wouldn't move out of the way so we gave up. I figured we were just missing something obvious.

Ya I work during the day but I might take a day off or leave early or something if I can get this taken care of. I appreciate your offer Milenko but I was hoping to get this done by the weekend if at all possible. I'm kind of in a rush to get it fixed so I can get rid of it.

Ah shut it butthead! I've only had it in my garage for a week and a half now. Just owned it for like 2 years or so.

Sounds like the same problem I had with Samantha's 250 before I sold it. I wouldn't be able to get out there until next week either. Let me know if it doesn't get fixed by then.

I could probably swing by and stumble my way through it. I'm assuming its not much different than the carbs in the ex500, or dirtbikes. Do you have all the tools and such? I'm about 15 minutes away.

If the airbox is anything like on my Bandit (behind the carbs and not under the tank) - yes, they are beeyotch to deal with. Getting the carbs in and out with the airbox in the way isn't fun.

Thankfully I only had to do it once and it never went back in. Pod filters FTW!! A full carb cleaning job can be done in under an hour including removal and replacement...

It wasn't mentioned, but another thing to probably swap out would be the spark plugs - but I'd definitely get those carbs out and clean the gunk.

I fixed up a '96 Seca II last summer that sat for years for my buddy... it only had 995 original miles on it. Plugs, oil change, battery, and a thorough carb clean, and it runs like a champ. It now resides in Seattle (ridden there!) and has almost 6k miles.

I went through the troubleshooting on the Manual Supplement already but I couldn't find that guide that you posted. I had that years ago when I had my 250 that I actually rode and it was awesome! Thanks for posting it again. That guide actually gave me a suggestion on how to move the airbox back to get to the carbs so I will try it tomorrow night.

I think I kinda understand the logistics of what to do with the carbs and how to clean em and stuff but I just can't get the stupid fuckers out.
