PSA: Vehicle GPS Theft

Got this from the work email, has been happening here in Skokie as well.

-----------------------------

At the request of the Deerfield Police Department, we are asking you to take notice: Deerfield is experiencing a rash of thefts from automobiles of GPS UNITS. Eleven have been stolen from parking lots in Deerfield in the past month. Perpetrators are breaking the window glass on vehicles to remove the units, typically prominent on dashboards. The police have asked that you notify your tenants and employees to place their GPS units in the glove box when exiting and locking their vehicles.

If this is happening in Deerfield, it is happening or will soon be happening in other communities. Please be watchful. According to the police, as many as three units have been removed from a single parking lot before any discovery is made.

Apparently my friend was taking the Blue Line to the Loop and he witnessed a theft near the Damon station when the train was passing by.

that's messed up!!!

I remember when that was happening with radar detectors a few years ago. Our vehicles are just not safe, even with an alarm..

I forgot to mention, there's no point in hiding a portable nav if you leave the suction cups on the windshield. Unless, you lock it in the glove.

I just got myself a sun shade for the windshield. I sure hope it helps a little since you can't really see jack inside when it's in use. Bastard facking thieves.

Most people learned to not leave their fuzz busters on the shield and all of a sudden it's ok to leave your gps there instead?

smash and grab in Plainfield too!

1 month ago, my Bro got his side window broken and GPS taken out of his car in Plainfield (Brink & Caton Farm Rd).
Police told him "smash and grab thefts/reports" in Plainfield subdivisions have sky-rocketed
Put them away, don't leave-em' in your car!

Yeah, and its also really easy to read a map while driving vs listening to "in 500 ft turn right."

You GPS haters are also the guys who knock MP3 players and flush toilets.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

It costs $30-40 for one of those bean bag mounts. When not in use, either put it in the glove box or under the seat, or somewhere out of sight. Takes less than a minute to do.

I'm surprised more cars are not broken into to steal the tollway transponders. Probably because once they're deactivated it'd be pretty obvious who stole the car after passing the first camera.
