Route 59 patrol effort set for Friday

Route 59 patrol effort set for Friday
May 4, 2008

Sun staff
If you plan on driving Route 59 on Friday, you might want to slow down and buckle up.
Police from Naperville and 13 other jurisdictions plan to conduct a traffic safety initiative along a 60-mile stretch of the busy state highway.
"The purpose of the initiative is to increase the safety of citizens utilizing the thoroughfare through education and traffic enforcement," Sgt. Lee Martin of the Naperville Police Department's Traffic Unit said in a release. "Our efforts will concentrate on speed and occupant restraint violations as well as other safety violations noted during our efforts."
In addition to Naperville, other departments expected to participate in the initiative are police departments in Shorewood, Joliet, Plainfield, Aurora, Warrenville, West Chicago, Bartlett, Streamwood and Hoffman Estates as well as the Will County Sheriff's Office, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police districts 2 and 5.
Each jurisdiction will implement its own enforcement action based upon the needs of their communities, the release said.

Which Friday?

Cops have been pulling people over left and right, now that the weather is nice enough for them to get out of their climate controlled cruisers.

Purrfect. I could care less about the seatbelts and speeding, just gotta do the right thing. I'm more concerned about the traffic. Rt.59 is a joke from downtown Plainfield to 80. Half of these knuckle draggers and oxygen thieves can't seem to mingle with there own kind unsupervised. What the hell is going to happen when they are nervous about being watched by big brother?

Reeks of Revenue Enforcement to me. They'll be zapping laser like no ones business....and writing as many tickets as possible for everyone who gets popped Why don't then take those all hard working LEOs and send them thru all the neighborhoods, teaching people how to prevent, break ins, teaching kids how to be safe. I haven't seen a squad roll thru my neighborhood...ever! I would love to see them walk the beat again...ride to an area, park the squad, walk thru a neighborhood, maybe 20 to 30 minutes. Guess there is no money in that!

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

There have been 2 or 3 major accidents in the past two weeks over on 59 between 19 and 72. I think their intentions are to show people that this isn't 2 Fast 2 Furious and you will be hit with some tickets if you're driving like a fn moron. In hindsight, its really just putting a bandaid on a broken bone.

5/9 on 59...............pretty witty

Is it ignorance, or apathy?

I don't know, and I don't care.

thats what i'm saying. they are supposed to be here to protect and serve. not to enforce traffic rules that are fuggin ridiculous. i think a cop would laugh at you if you asked him the last time he went on patrol on foot. at least any cop in the burbs. they are basically there to make money for the cities and towns that they work for. what the hell do we pay taxes for if they are just going to get way more money by doing these things. its not that i race down 59 whipping in and out of cars. i just tend to drive about 7-10 mph over the limit because i don't want to end up being late for work. whatever. rant over. will not be taking 59 on friday for fear of being ticketed for nonsense.

I agree with ya, but there are those dbags that are whipping around weaving in and out of traffic.

Problem is the cop will probably be too busy writing a ticket for one of us going 7mph over when that asshole flies by.

We just drove from 90 to 55 on 59... musta been 30-40 squad cars and I have never seen so mony unmarked, or so many motocops.

Can anyone elaborate on the "EDUCATION" part mentioned in the first post?

The funniest part was the cop ON TOP of the Dunkin Donuts at 59 and North.

I'm driving with trailer in tow. A cop pulls out in front of me! Didn't you see the "white wall of death" I'm pulling.... Geeezz

He gets behind the person he wants to stop. She pulls onto the center median and decides she should go to the shoulder. She and the cop both cut across both lanes and cut me off again!

I hope she didn't get off with a warning for that one.
