the search for a new mp3 player

trying to find a new mp3 player for me.

flexible on size,

I just dont want one that requires a program to place mp3s on it or require particular formats.

mini usb connection would be sweet, but I know that most manufacturers suck nowadays.

any suggestions?

kiddin, you can get a sirius stilletto 100 and it's satellite radio and an mp3 player. Not sure how much music that one holds though.

Im with streaker. I got the sirius stilletto 100 and I love it. It will hold about roughly 200 mp3's, but it also can record shows off satellite so you can listen to them at a later date. For ocane 20 I got 2 days 10 hours worth of saved radio. I never run out of stuff to listen to.

I'm not sure about the program thing, but my niece has an I-river and loves it. Worth checking out.

I had an Iriver and so did my wife. Mine laster just 1 week after the warranty was up (it somewhat works if I pray really hard). My wifes will just shut off for no reason. My bro-in-law had one also and it just stopped working.

I am sterile

I was joking with the iPod, and I don't think the stilletto requires a program. I do not own that unit, mine does need the program but I have been told that one doesn't.

only thing I can find that's solid state and has no software

http://www.corporatekey.com/execstr/...?idCategory=41

otherwise, I'd say go ipod but use winamp to manage your songs...I find it superior to itunes.

hope that helps

Zune does need a program. One of my buddies was trying for the longest time to use it without software but to no avail. The stilletto does not need software. Just plug in the usb cable and open the device in my computer. Its that simple. When ya get bored of mp3's, simply switch over to get radio.

blackberry FTW...there is a program that comes with it but i was able to just sync it to my windows media player and voila i have all my music. comes with a mini sd slot i have a 2 gb in there now but i think you can use up to a 4 gb. it uses a mini usb and has a stereo jack on the side as well. i really like the music player on it as well as all the other features. oh yeah. i got my blackberry curve (the new one) for 99.00 with a new contract.

I have a Sandisk Sansa player. No software needed to put music on it. You plug it in to the computer's USB port and shows up as a USB drive. Throw your music on there by dragging and dropping using explorer.
It plays Video (quicktime format) and you can listen to and record FM radio in addition to mp3s.
You can customize it by throwing on different firmware, Rockbox, to change the look (I had iPhone emulator on there) and add functions.
I recharge it much less than my wifes iPod nano and use it a ton more so it has great battery life. Has an expandable microSD slot for more memory.

The bad? Navigating through playlists is initially slow. For example, when listening to one playlist, going to the main menu will have a 3-4 second initial delay. After that, its fine. And also the bootup takes longer than an ipod. Probably about 5-10 seconds.
To create a playlist, I use a third party (free) program since it works quickly and easily. Playlist are only stored on your player. I use the program because otherwise I'd have to sync it with Windows media player to create playlists.

I have the older version (this one): http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-...0610474&sr=8-3

The newer version looks nicer:

+1 for the Sansa. I have one I used while at high altitudes because its solid state and uses a AAA battery. Good little no-frills player.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!
