New Car!

So I bought a new toy last night, I know it's kinda queenish but I still like it. I can't stand riding two-up and the girlfriend wanted something "we could share", so this is the result.

1990 Miata
New trans/clutch 2,000 miles ago
90,000 original miles
New shocks
New(er) Top

We saw this on the way to pick it up (a good sign):

Miatas are another of those cars that are highly undersestimated. I was reading an article in Excellence (Porsche rag) talking about how 911 drivers were at a driver's school and the instructors had them switch from Carreras to Miata Cup cars. At first they were bitching but after a few laps they all praised the car; how it handled and how much fun it is to drive.

Nice ride, Brian. Let the mods begin.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

They area blast to rip it up in. I wanted one of those or a fiero. Do a small block conversion, suspension and have some fun.

I read the same thing about them, suppose to be fun. The SV650's of the car world. Congrats. Toss a turbo in that baby.
I really dig the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky too for a little roadster but I am too cheap to put gas in two cages

Convertibles are fun.

We are averaging 25 city and 30 highway with the Sky Redine, which isn't bad considering I have a heavy foot.

That's the benefit of a 4 banger.

I get about 19 city and 28 highway in the Boxster S, then again it isn't my daily driver.

If Porsche guys carry purses and the Miata's gheyness is off the charts in comparison, I'm going to need to pull a Silent and snip off the goods to drive this thing.

I was driving it like a jackass last night, getting sideways around corners and TERRIFYING Lauren, it was glorious.

A little dissapointed. You did not get the S2000, but that Miata is a lot of bang for the buck. Cage it, change the front sway bar, and upgrade to polyurethane bushings. You will be able to rail that thing past a lot of other cars.

if you remember the guy that used to do the "Trucks" show, Stacey, he's got a new show where he's building a Miata as one of the projects with a 408 windsor stroker motor. It looks exactly like the Banshee from GTAIII. I highly recommend that body kit

I would have needed to sell my Taurus to afford the S2000 a month after buying the new bike and since the practicality of an S2k in Chicago Winters is questionable at best, I didn't think it wise.

Also,
2003 S2000= $23,000 with low miles
1990 Miata= Well less than that

My mom has a sky turbo. Bullshit that a 65 year old woman has such a car. The miata is a lot of bang for the buck. Better value than the s2000.

The Miata is nothing special in a straight line and a girls car.... but it is a BLAST in the corners!! Nice find dude! Enjoy it!

Ride smart... stupid hurts.

Congrats. The Honda S2000 is about the only car that is more like a motorcycle than the Miata. The Honda redlines at 9000 rpm, its loud and no room for anything in the cockpit. But what a ride. I got a 2001 S2000.

The Miata, pretty quiet with top up?

Throw the Greddy turbo kit on it(no intercooler needed) and you will walk ALOT of cars. Make sure you check the CAS at the back of the valve cover, Miatas are prone to leak from there. Also if you haven't already, start reading on:
Miata.net
Clubroadster
Lots of good info on both. Loved all three of mine!
