Car Trouble!!

Ok so I am dropping it off on Thursday night so they can look at it Friday.
But I have a Honda Accord 05.
What's been happening is this.
I'll be driving or stopped and the car will completely shut off. Lights, Radar, Radio, all the needles drop.... the car shuts off. It will do this for a split second and then come back on. It started on Thursday on my way home from work. It happened about 10 times on the way home. Didn't do it at all Friday, barley drove it at all over the weekend. It was doing it again yesterday. So I figured I'd take it in. Didn't do it today yet....
Does anyone know what this could be? Alternator? I know it's not the battery.
Thanks.

Bikes can be replaced...people can't...ride safe!!

When you say the car shuts off, does the motor die or all the electronics just just off?

nothing you can do since you probably need tools to read diagnostic codes off the engine control unit

The car is trying to save gas.

No idea. I'm curious to see what the dealer says.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Before you drop it off, check to see that the wires are secured to the battery, that could be a quick fix.

Other than that, o shit! hope my car doesn't do it.

+1

Sounds like an electrical problem somewhere and when you say that you know it's not the battery, I'm guessing you just got a new one. Check to make sure the cables are on there tight and are clean.

That was my immediate thought, check to make sure both wires to the battery are CLEAN (no corrosion/acid/buildup) and SECURE (don't move when you tug on them). As was said by others, could be a simple fix.

sounds like a bad electrical connection somewhere in your ignition lock area. Do you have a chip in your key that immobilzes the vehicle? Maybe something to do with that but its all hearsay. Best thing to do is take it in like you're doing and try to note if certain driving conditions duplicate the systems then relay the info to the shop.

Remove the battery hookups then scrub the shit out of the contact points with a wire brush, then pour a little bit of Coca-Cola on the contacts then clean it off with a damp rag, now drive and see if that helped.

I got dinner at Portillo's that says it fixes your problem.

All that corrosion might be effecting the connection. An 05's battery should still be running strong at 3 years old. Sounds like you might be paying them to take a wire brush to the terminals and putting the connections back on.

Even though the car can run on the Alt. some require the circuit to be complete by the battery. If here is a loose or aulty conection that may be why she gets the sudden death.

Arrogance has to be earned.

that depends on alternator strength, what accessories you have going (toaster oven, capuccino maker, ect.)

can you get a pic of the blue and white stuff on the battery, its probably just terminal protector though

a loose alternator positive wire can cause this as well

My wife has the same make and year.

She got something in the mail about a recall on hers. The letter said something on what your descibing. Car turning off and on while your driving or just stopped.

You really should check with Honda about that. FYI They will need your Vin# to look at the recall info. It shouldn't be any charge to you.....
