U.S. Energy Savings Corp?

Did I just get sold?

Some guy came to my door from U.S. Energy Savings Corp (gas supplier to Peoples' Gas)with an offer to fix my gas charge was $1.09/therm (this is $0.10 less than last years rate). My current rate was $0.98/therm (not sure what it was in the cold months).

Other things to note:
-there is no charge to lock the rate for 5 yrs
-they have to run my credit to see if I am eligible for this
-my bill will still be from Peoples' Gas
-I can cancel this service with no charges in 30 days

It seems like a good idea but as soon as I signed the agreement - I felt like I got scammed for some reason.

Anyone know anything about this? HELP!

Man you got scammed in one way or another, going door to door is totally a con man's style. I'd be putting out the identity theft warning to the credit and banking folks if I were you.

yup, cancel that right away. They were going down my block last weekend. My dad got sucked into signing up with them a while back and when the bill came it was higher than it should have been. Long story short, it took a call to the State Atty General's office under some "taking advantage of seniors" to get them to switch him back to Nicor.

I'm on the phone right now. I can't believe I didn't read through all the paperwork and just signed. I'm usually a lot smarter than that.

D'oh!!!!

Don't worry dude, just get out of it and if they give you any problems threaten to get the States Attorney General office (Lisa Madigan's office) involved.

just remember that if it was such a great deal they wouldn't have to go door to door trying to sell it.

That place has all sorts of complaints against it, the main ones being charging ridiculous prices to get out of the contract and claiming to be representatives of either the gas company (Peoples or Nicor, whichever is appropriate) or the state government. Buyer beware X 10 when it comes to them.
