Vacation spots?

Alright so the girl graduates college here in the next week and this spring I want to take her somewhere special for a week or so. I'm looking for great vacation spots and who I should book them through.

We brought it up the other night and SoCal came up, as well as some tropics spots but neither of us have been to either so we're open to suggestions. She told me to surprise her and that's something I'm good at anyway. So lets hear your suggestions for places to go/stay and who to book through.

Some things to keep in mind:
-We've talked about snorkeling and wanting to do that
-Open to all sorts of activities
-Prefer warm climate!

SoCal is great, check out Venice Beach rent a bicycle and cruise along the beach, Santa Monica is really cool and if you want to do some water sports then you can rent a surfboard and try surfing also go to San Pedro. There is universal studios and Hollywood you can check out as well as Beverly hills, if you go out of the country I think you need a passport now so keep that in mind.

Just did my 3rd trip to Mexico in a year period. If you really want to do some awesome snorkeling, I'd suggest you go to Cozumel. I stayed at Iberostar and it wasn't too expensive. If you want to do other activities the resort provides trips to the mainland like the Chichen Itza (Mayan ruins).

She doesn't do so well on boats so a cruise is out sadly. Even with a bunch of dramamine it's just not worth it if she isn't having fun.

Both very good choices.

Do you have passports?

As for booking check the CLSB network thread.

I've done Cozumel. Reasonable, fun. If you go there, there's a place in town where you can rent dune buggys; we were there off-peak, so we were able to convince them to let us rent one for the week. I think it was like 50.00 a day and worth every penny. If you go there, make sure you hang on the southern end of the island; mostly deserted beaches and coves where you can snorkle, a couple of really kick-ass bars, no development. And the Mayan ruins on the mainland are a long trip, but totally worth seeing.

Domestically, I want to get back to the Keys. We went there for our honeymoon; laid back, relaxed, beautiful, and again, you can do them reasonably. We like to explore neighborhoods and non-touristy places; we must have found every back-alley bar on Key West. And sometimes, it's just nice to stay in the country; I almost got into a lot of trouble down in Mexico. Sometimes it's easy to forget that you don't have the same legal rights in other countries, and that's all I'll say about that.

If you really want to save some money, consider Galveston, Port Aransas, or South Padre. You can get a nice beach house this time of year and relax and spend quality time together-- you'll get major girlfriend points
If you decide on TX send me a PM and I'll point you in the right direction.

Another good domestic spot is the FL Keys, but you'll spend more $.

Hunny posted a thread a while back about vacations-- there's some good advice in there if you search for it.

Cancun is fun too. Catch a tour bus to Xel-Ha for snorkeling in a natural lagoon. That's an all day thing. Or catch a bus to see all the Mayan ruins. Nite time, there are plenty of bars and clubs in Cancun to keep you busy as well. While you're there, try the seafood lime soup. It's served at a lot of restaurants there. It's delicious!!!

If you go, look up Brant in Cancun (http://entertainment-plus.net/) for some great discount coupons. His discount booklet has a ton of good discounts. I used the 2-for-1 all you can eat lobster dinner at the Marriot. He'll also hook you up with transpo to/from airport as well.

I want to go back soo bad!!!

Yep, that is super nice, that is what we did. Looks like they added AC since we were there. There are additional dives as well as night dives available as well.

I'll have to find my dive log to get you the names of the best dives.

Agreed on St Pete Beach. Relatively inexpensive considering other options.
Another potential place in the St Pete area is Pasa Tiempo Bed & Breakfast Resort ( http://www.pasa-tiempo.com/ ). It's not on the beach, but then it's also very quiet, secluded, romantic, etc. You can always get a car to go where the action is.

If you're thinking out of the country, perhaps St Thomas or the other US Virgin Islands? Or, we honeymooned in Punta Cana (DR)...but didn't do any snorkeling...but the beaches were amazing.
