Chrysler $2.99 gas gaurantee

I think these guys are a genius. With everyone affraid of gas prices they will probably run to trade off their car for a new car. If you travel 15,000 miles a year and the car gets 20 mpg Chrysler will shell out a measly $750 per year. Even 15 mpg equates out to $1000. That is less than most incentives. And god only knows what the fine print says.

it's a win-win. Chrysler sells more cars, prevents gas company pwnage with a cap on what they re-imburse, and consumers get cheaper gas. As long as you don't mind owning a chrysler, I think it's a good thing.

Where did you come up with $750? It depends on the car and MPG

It doesn't say $750 on the website:
http://www.chrysler.com/en/refuel/index.html

*The gallon allotment calculation used to determine three years of gas at $2.99 per gallon is as follows: 12,000 miles driven per year multiplied by 3 years, divided by the vehicle's adjusted combined EPA City/Highway average miles per gallon (MPG) (average MPG calculated via average of all body models MPG within each nameplate). Please refer to attached matrix to view individual nameplate average MPG and program gallon allotment.

If you read my post I explain how I got it. Plus I state you have to read the fine print because I estimated 15000 miles which I believe is the national average.

my simple down and dirty math shows this as saving about $600 a year on gas. Figuring $4.00 per gallon, 25mpg, 15000 miles per year

That's not quite enough to compensate for the embarrassment of driving a Chrysler.

Chrysler's $2.99 gas card promo pretty worthless, for now

Posted Nov 24th 2008 1:30PM by Alex Nunez
Filed under: Car Buying, Etc., Chrysler, LLC.

Oh well. Those Chrysler "Let's Refuel America" gas cards undoubtedly sounded good to car buyers over the summer when gas was well over four bucks and it seemed like there was no limit to how high the price could go. Offered in lieu of rebates, the gas cards essentially locked drivers into the then-cheap pump price of $2.99/gallon. Now, several months (and countless hysterical media reports) later, the economy is in the tank and so, as it happens, is the price of gas. In what feels like a time warp, $2-per-gallon gas is suddenly not uncommon. That's great news for drivers in general, but less so for drivers holding the $2.99 gas cards, which don't seem like such a hot deal anymore. This is the gamble you take when you agree to a fixed price on a commodity subject to market fluctuations. It's the same issue some people now face with heating oil: over the summer, customers who locked-in a contracted price in fear of astronomical costs this winter are now set to pay through the nose, while others who gambled and decided to just pay market price are at an advantage. The good news for the Chrysler gas card holders: the price is good for a couple more years, so if gas shoots up again, they're back in the game. Thanks for the tip, Soh Won Cha!
