Longest time without sleep?

I left for work at 5:45am Tuesday morning and just got home now. So that got me thinking.... What is the longest you have gone without sleep? Why?

For me it's probably close to 28 hours. It was for work, got called to respond to something which ended up going until the next morning non-stop

the longest for me was when i was in the military...i stayed up for 78 hours and man it was fucking BRUTAL...the most recent time was about 2 years ago or so when my mom was admitted into the hospital for heart failure...my dad and brother had already been there overnight and went home after i got there from after i went to work and then headed straight to the hospital and watched my mom overnight...she didnt get any sleep, so i got maybe 15 minutes of a cat nap...then i went home about 9 am to crash...i was up for prolly 30 hours...(btw, my mom is fine and still kickin my ass)

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

3-4 days. Combo of working at the bank (doing a conversion), anxiety, needing to get a bunch of photos edited, and a crap load of video edited.

Edit: only chemical assistance was large amounts of red bull and mountain dew.

Namaste

Military . . . 74 hours. I honestly don't know how I still functioned.

In Iraq, I had an eight day stretch with only 2-3 hours of sleep per day. SUCKED!

+1 I cant even remember how long i stayed up! I remember being in the desert "watching" and everytime my spotter or i would get tired we would take 15 minute naps and pop another little ISSUED yellowish white pill and amazingly i remember the sun going down, coming up, going down, coming up a few times but i swear it was like 72+ hours with cat naps..... Never really had any sleep deprevation symptoms as long as we kept taking the pills. NOW i will say i think we slept for 2 days on and off once we extracted to BC.

I wish i knew what we took cause man i never felt jittery or sleepy! Gotta love experimental medicine!!!! Then again to this day caffene has ZERO effect oin me!

In HS I used certain illicit subtances and think I had a 4-5 day stretch where i didn't sleep at all, then I had a seizure. Ahh, the lessons learned while young.

w/o using any illegal substances, the longest I stayed up was working on the race car at SIU my freshman year, we were trying to get the engine installed and started and I think I was up from 7am to 6pm the next day, so 35 hours.

I think it was a little over 70 hours back in the Army. I started seeing sh*t: I thought our assembly area was being infiltrated by guys in ghillie suits.

4 days, but nothing in my system was legal. I'm over that now, but don't really require much sleep. I can go 48hours without sleep no problem. All I need is coffee, but I need that for any amount of awake time.

I've stayed up about 42 hours with no naps, sleep... That was during finals week at UIC.

I was studying for Algorithms, Physics 2, and DiffEQ finals (if I remember correctly).

Roughest semester ever. I was shakey from all the No-Doze I took, as well as the coffee. Don't think there was Red Bull back then.

Same and you actually have to be coherent enough to accomplish missions. When you finally do get rack time you shake for about an hour before sleep.

With no sleep, not sure. But I've gone weeks and weeks on end with no more than 3 to 4 hours of sleep per night and done many 3 to 4 day stretches only getting around 2 hours per night. I'm always amazed at how good I feel after getting my first full night of sleep.

Over 70 hours... I was preparing for a bunch of exams. At some point I saw bright light spots crawling on the table and started trying to hit them with my fist. After a few seconds I realized what I was doing, got pissed off, swiped all the shit from the table on the floor and crashed on the sofa.

I only had an aid of coffee, sugar and nicotine.

BTW, it's what somebody said about programming and I think it applies to everything: "Sleep deprivation is not a badge of honor".

I never had any yellow pills All I had was a ziploc baggie stuffed with every pack of instant coffee I could snag from the MRE's. I would then open the packs and pour the grounds into my mouth like eating a pixie-stik, take a mouthfull of water, swish it around, and swallow it. Nasty as hell, but the home-made expresso worked pretty good.

Sometimes we were lucky enough to have some cases of the Triple-Shot Expresso Latte cans. I don't advise drinking three of those in one shot though...Trust Me! I'm suprised my heart didn't explode.

It looks like the military is good for the 70+ hour shit

While in A-school in the navy I did two all nighters in a row so I guess that would be about 60 hours. When I finally went to bed I was asleep before I hit the rack and slept for about 24 hours. Very weird sleep too.
