I put mine in the basement, in a box laying down right on the concrete.. nice and cool and free. I give them a 1/4 turn every month.

Popped open a 2000 Shiraz last night when I got home and it was just perfect.

Arch has it about right...but if you are going to develope a taste for wine and replace the bottles as you drink them, buy a wine rack and store it on the rack. It actually slopes the bottles down and eliminates the need for turning.
My brother is a real expert, he drinks wine with every dinner and he is also an MD and tells me it's the most healthful drink with dinner. It has a lot of beneficial effects. One of which is that it lowers your blood sugar and red wine is full of compounds good for you...even helps prevent aging.....something I certainly can appreciate!

Red wines should ideally be stored between 55-60 degrees, and whites 49 - 56 degrees.Wine should also be stored on a slight angle to keep the cork moist. If the cork becomes dry and cracked it will allow air into the bottle thus causing it to go bad. Turning all of your wine weekly is always a good idea.

Ideal storage should also be in a dark and dry area. Basements can be ideal wine storage areas as long as there is no moisture.

Boone's Farm is now considered 'retro'

Show it off when you drink it, like these folks: http://www.boonesfarm.net/index_files/Page345.html

I agree with drink and replace. Don't forget that many wines go bad with age no matter how you store them. Only certain wines are meant to age, others go bad. For example a Beaujolais nouveau is made from a very young grape, first of the harvest. This wine must be drank within months of bottling. I have even had some moderate priced Cotes de Rhone that I had for over 9 months, it too went bad and should have been drank sooner.
Also have to keep in mind that you have no idea how the wine was stored before you bought it. It could have sit on a skid in AZ in a 150 degree warehouse, this would for sure shorten its' life. My rule is to have around 8 bottles on had at all times and just drink them within a reasonable time frame. Then buy another 8 or so.

If you have any white wine drink it! Keep it too long and it turns into vinegar.

basement if you got it, if not somewhere cooler, and def out of the sun light.
That's one of Biggy's and I problem, no where to store our wine. No basement, and no where cool in our house unless we keep the air on all the time.
So we just drink it as we buy them

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

I think the most I've had at one time on hand is 25 bottles, right now I have about 16 or so. I'm thinking more and more about buying one of those wine coolers.

They have dual-temperature coolers where you can set on zone for reds and one for whites. They're a little more $, but still under $200 I believe, maybe even cheaper.
