Iowa Floods

All I can say is, I am so glad I resisted the urge to buy a vintage house in town!

My heart goes out to my fellow Iowegians. No power, no water, flooding everwhere.

www.gazetteonline.com and

www.kcrg.com tells the story. Fucking Cedar River crested over 30' this afternoon. Our office building 2 blocks from the river, downtown has the entire lobby FILLED with water. All the funky, cool neighborhoods SUBMERGED. My friends were all able to get away, thank God.

Our back-up generators were 14" above the 100-year flood mark... and were submerged by Wednesday night. Still no network or systems functionality... maybe by Tuesday.

I may head back after my certs on Monday, just to help with the cleanup.

Our rail traffic from Iowa has basicially stopped. We parked loaded grain and coal trains on the bridges for added weight so the bridges would not be washed away.

I was wondering about that... they lost some loaded railcars and part of a bridge yesterday.

Rail traffic should be up and running in a week. If there is water a few inches about the rail, you cannot send an engine through it. I guess there are quite a few mudslides also.

Is getting bad here. They expect the Rock river to crest sunday or monday. Tonight at work teh river was already encroaching our parking lot. Central WI is literally a closed road obsticale course. Even areas of the interstates are closed.

Crazy flooding throughout the midwest! Hopefully some of the good weather being forecast comes through.

I live right by the river in Iowa City. (Well now I have riverside property, lol) Luckily I am up on a hill, so it won't get to my apartment. The only thing that sucks about this flood is the traffic. It takes me a solid 40 minutes to get to work now.
